Satin
Brookins
Gomberg

 

Couple of those I wouldn’t have minded keeping around. Most would have needed pretty big improvements to see much PT though. Most kids aren’t gonna sit on the bench for very long nowadays. It’s just how it works in this era.

 

little surprised by Philpott - had a feeling we would lose Brookins with the pickup of Jones and prospect of Cyr playing OF as well.

 

Philpott, Brookins, and Gomberg have "do not contact" tags so I would expect them back. Seems to be a way to deal with roster management and NIL.

I think they will be back. At least two of them.

 

I think Pilllpot espcially has potential to be really good.

 

This is one I want to keep too, he showed some good stuff in CWS and at other times so the potential is there just got to put it altogether.

 

I also want to keep him. For one, he seems to have a lot of potential. For another, my son constantly asks us, “How many pots would Philpott fill if Philpot could fill pots?”, so I think he’d be pretty heartbroken if Philpott left.

 

I don't completely understand it.

For the NIL part, it could theoretically help the player get more from UF without having to actually transfer. "I want to stay but pay more NIL or I'll get serious about leaving."

For the roster management part it has something to do with the "counter" at specific dates as far as roster size requirements. Someone in the portal gives the coaching staff more short-term flexibility apparently.

I'm trying to learn more as I'm clearly not up to speed here.

 

Usually what that means is they’ve already narrowed down their potential landing spot, or possibly even singled one out. Very rare for anyone to come back after entering the portal. We’ve had like two in football. Don’t recall any in baseball. I would not expect anyone back. Not impossible, but it is improbable.


All it means is they don’t want 100’s of phone calls, they’ll call you if they’re interested in your school. These guys have friends and old teammates all over the place. Back channeling is going on constantly.

 

Generally speaking yes but not what's being rumored in regards to the 3 players I mentioned.

Philpott and Brookins are two I would like to see stick around for at least another year. Gomberg, I remember during practice season, is he one of the guys that got hurt?
