It’s really quite simple to motivate—during your daily BP, if you don’t get your bunts down RIGHT you don’t get your cuts….

You can get his attention if you do it right.

Yep, not a bunting team, but I recall Halter breaking out of his early season slump after a bunt base hit. At least I think I recall that. ;)

Every good team I've ever been around...get one down both lines before you get to take your cuts

The problem with that is that bunting a room service BP pitch is WAY different from bunting a live pitch when you don't have advance knowledge.

I get what you’re saying and don’t disagree—but it’s like pitchers taking PFP’s—it’s not done in practice at game speed, but it’s the familiarity so that your execution is second nature I think.

But one of the most important skills in bunting is when to lay off and take the pitch. You just can't replicate that in BP. Fall ball is where these skills need to be honed.

I get it, but any BP is WAY different than live pitching....but it's a method of getting work in both for bunting and full swings. I agree you aren't becoming proficient at bunting by laying a couple down in BP, but it is getting reps that reinforce a skill

I get that but when a batter is in a bunting situation he won't get any easy to bunt pitches. Knowing how to bunt hard to bunt pitches is a real skill that you can't get in BP and I think it is a different skill set from just laying down a bunt thrown over the middle.

Bunting is not a simple skill.

I think we all recognize bunting isn't a simple skill....neither is hitting, but there is still vaue in BP for both. Not suggesting anyone is going to "learn how to bunt" by taking BP, but there is a reason every team on the planet gets their reps in

I can’t count the number of players that we used the bunt in BP to help pull them out of a slump—quite simply they were told in BP if you don’t get your bunts down you don’t get your hacks.

    You can get their attention.
