He sure is a different coach. I think he will do really well. I’m a little surprised they’ve struggled so far but know they are a dangerous team and we gotta be ready. This starts off the chance to have a huge week.

Thoughts on Nesbitt starting on the road in a tough place to play against a big rival.
Get ahead and gives us 4-5 quality innings. Giving up 3 runs or less with this situation would be a major win.

Their weekend starters outside of their Fri night guy have been weak.

Yeah, kind of surprised as I expected immediate results from Jarrett but the season is still young and hoping tonight is not their springboard.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about this one. Link could really use a win tonight after a poor start to the season. I don't expect him to do anything crazy with the pitching with #8 Virginia coming up this weekend, but I do think he will have his guys extra motivated tonight.

I’ve seen a few innings of these guys on TV when their games have started before our start times.

The things of note that I have seen—their big freshman 3rd baseman makes his plays and has plenty of arm—he’s a strong kid that can run into one with his bat. I have seen him hit it hard where it’s pitched but it’s always been in hitter’s counts.

Their CF covers his share of ground in the outfield. Their catcher seems to be decent.

We all know their SS—what I’ve seen is he makes the plays that you would expect him to but he still has issues with anything extra…..

Their Friday SP is competitive, their other arms are without a wow factor IMHO. We need to be aggressive when they are in the zone and not help them by chasing chit outta the zone.

Barrett was a pretty high recruit coming out of First Academy High School in Orlando. 6'4" 220 lbs., a freshman who has only pitched 5.2 innings so far this year.

Ben Barrett (FR, RHP, 2-way player) for SWAC

According to the SWAC website, he has 10 starts in only 3 appearances; 12 games total. If you can believe that then here's the rest of it:

    3.18 ERA, 0.58 WHIP, 0-0, 5.2 IP, 6 K, 1 BB, .105, 0 3B

You have said it many times ( probably not your exact words). Get ahead in count, don’t give them freebies, play Gator Baseball- smart from the start.
Here’s to hoping we come out focused. Like to see Nesbitt go right at them.

Hey 74, do you expect the Nole hitters to come out aggressive, swinging at first pitch, or will they be patient to run up the pitch count at a home game? Bama was patient for most of the series in the first 3 innings. FSU used to try and get plenty of walks when possible. I don't know what to expect from Link with this game.

Still hoping we get to see more of Ursitti, Fisher, Hartzog, and maybe Tejeda. Ficarrotta or Slater will be ready if Nesbitt goes out before the 6th. FSU has at least 5 RH hitters and a few switch hitters so I like Nesbitt to start. Their main LH hitter is Tibbs of course and Sully will probably try Fisher and/or Abner to get by him if needed later in the game. I was really looking forward to Coppola being back for this game. Oh well, maybe next year.

    87—

What I’ve seen out of them to this point under LJ is they do have more of a tendency to be aggressive early in the counts of their AB’s as compared to “11’s” approach from the get-go to build the opposition’s pitch count.

By the same token if the pitcher is missing badly early in the count then they get selective (as I would hope we would as well).

Just looking at a random selection of SWAC's BB + HBP (batting) per game over the last few years:

    2019: 7.2
    2021: 6.1
    2022: 5.4
    2023: 4.5

Nesbitt should be groomed to be our fourth starter. We will need one come tournament time. He seems like the likely candidate.
