Baseball Around the SEC, Week 9 (4/13 - 4/19/23)

Kentucky’s having one of “those” starts at Alex Box—1st inning, Ky 3up/3down.

Ky-goes BB, HBP, BB, single (2 RBI), BB, single, Grand Slam…..after one inning of play—Corndogs 6/Cats 0

 

Bottom of 3rd/6-1 Corndogs with them coming to bat.

Skenes is the real deal—99-102 FB, Slider 87-90, and change up 86-90…. If there’s anything to critique, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a power slider and a change up at basically the same velo.

His slider is the ol’school slider, not the slurve.

 

Another grand slam by LSU.

 

Now LSU is up 11-1 in the 3rd. You mean Kentucky is not that top 10 team that everyone kept wondering why they weren't ranked higher?
How's that small ball style going for them tonight.

Skenes velocities are holding pretty well—in the 4th/FB holding at 96-99, slider with sharp late break 85-87, and change up at 86-88.

It is so obvious which pitches swung on would’ve shattered wood bats in pro ball…..

 

Had the SEC game on while grilling -- Skenes is seriously good- no f- around.
Throws seemingly effortless—99-102 FB, Sliders around 89-90 , and change up 86-88…and mix is perfect. LSU is for real guys and gals. We need to be ready - and get better, when the time comes. UK is being showed the door tonight in my view and Gators need to get 2/3 at least in Lex.

Well done South Carolina and Kentucky, I just wish we would have made good use of LSU and Vanderbilt losing.

 

Maybe this is why MSU is not doing so well this year....

 

There are currently 14 guys in SEC w/ 12+ HRs. 23 with 10+

Last year we had 6 guys reach 20.

No, it’s the time violation clock-it’s screwing everything up about the game of baseball!

 

Strike zones the main culprit IMO.. walks way up too.

But all are contributing for sure.

Not sure if other teams do this, but AU Cs a lot of times will start tapping his wrist when clock getting low. Always at start or in middle of pitchers delivery.. I dont have stats, but not many of those pitches end up good..lol AU also still only team Im aware of that catchers call game(LaRue at least), which seems to slow things down,,shaking off etc.
