Baseball Around the SEC - Week 12 (5/4 - 5/10/23)

Alabama finds a way to beat Vanderbilt and wins the series with a score of 2-1. Vandy had bases loaded in the top of the 9th and failed to score. Florida moves closer to the second spot in the SEC.
Its been a great afternoon for Gator baseball. Now let's get the win to make use of it.

 

After giving up just 10 runs in a 3 game sweep of Florida. South Carolina is 2-4 last 6 giving up 46 runs.

 

Interesting looking at the SEC road records this year:

Arkansas: 5-6
UF: 6-5
UK: 4-8
LSU: 7-3
South Carolina: 6-5
Tennessee: 2-9
Vanderbilt: 6-6

Winning on the road in the SEC is so hard to do.

 

among ranked teams, only Arky won their series on the road

 

Tip of the cap to Bama, Auburn, UGA, KY, for doing their part to help us out.

It’s a crying shame that we didn’t take advantage of this opportunity.

 

Yeah I was hoping AU was only upset, to be atop the bubble teams list. ..oh well.. keep grinding.

Get pitching like this weekend, they will be a handful rest of way. LSU 11 total runs in series.

 

Here's hoping tonight's Vanderbilt game with Louisville goes over 20 innings.

 

Gators are now 6-6 on the road and are 1-5 in their last two road weekends after a 5-1 start. Would like the trend to be going the other way.

 

Agreed, it seems like the SEC contenders teams as a whole are now racking up road losses. Vandy is 1-5 in their last 6, USC just dropped 3 in a row, Tennessee just stinks on the road, LSU just dropped 2 of 3.

Only way teams seem to win road series is by playing in Mississippi, lol.

 

I was hoping for the same 87... It went 12 innings and I watched a good part of it and Vandy- as much as I hate to say it- showed true grit in winning the ballgame on the road. It was clear that Louisville was trying very hard to win- even bringing in their Friday night starter for two innings-- but Vandy found a way- in part by playing small ball in key moments. They bunt.... and seem to do it well.

On a positive note-- North Florida beat USCe at Columbia. Go Ospreys!

If you watch them it was interesting to see how far out on the field the players were allowed to celebrate. I wonder if this will have any residual effect this weekend if the umps let Vandy out beyond the dugout area. We have been warned several times at our own ballpark already this year. Sully better be ready to remind the umps to call it fair.
