Baker Acted - 3 long guns, 14 handguns

That’s awesome. We caught one of these crazies before anybody got hurt.

 

I’ll focus on the positive for now.

 

That looks like a fun day at the range. Unless of course you are Baker acted. I'm ok with "Red Flag Laws" in this situation.

 

If this somehow prevents a bunch of school kids from being slaughtered that is a good outcome.

 

Sounds more like Schizophrenia than Bi-Polar. Either way it seems there is going to be a never-ending string of these fellows killing people from now on. It is part of the fabric of contemporary life in the States now. I mean does anyone even slightly get shocked about mass shootings (killings overall) anymore? Going after guns won't change a thing because Mexico would simply start importing guns more than fentanyl. Demand equals a supply will come. And how do you tell a woman that she can't carry to protect herself from all of the vile rapists out there? It is a lost battle.

Normal people should be able to own as many guns as they want.

 

I think wanting to own more than one hunting rifle for each hunter in the household and a handgun for each adult in the household is the maximum. Anyone wanting more is crazy.

 

Article says he was charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Unclear to me if he expressly threatened anyone, so I'm not sure how solid those charges may be. Even assuming the Baker Act issue didn't preclude him from owning guns, wouldn't there be a charge for possession given that he was walking around with a rifle? Also, I think it's supposed to be illegal to manufacture or sell brass knuckles in Florida, but people were selling them at a gun show I went to several months back. So maybe that's just not enforced?

I like this idea on the surface, but we must remember that guns are tools. You need to use the right tool when hunting. The gun you would use to hunt rodents isn’t the same you would need to use to hunt Elk.

Handguns are typically defensive tools and therefor I see the logic in a limitation there.

 

I get that. I thought of that myself. My theory is the best home defense weapon is a pump shotgun. Hearing the first pump would make me run if I was breaking in to a house. The problem with logical home defense plans is I can’t think like a crackhead.

Perfect plan. Good thing there's a clearly defined, self-enforcing line between the two, which makes it a perfect reform in practical effect.

I have a friend with an arsenal. He just loves guns and likes to collect and shoot them. I don't worry about him hurting anyone, but he's not mentally ill, doesn't have any substance abuse issues and doesn't care about politics (except for guns). I do joke with him that he only has two hands, so I'm not sure what the rest of the guns will be good for unless we're in an apocalyptic or war situation where we have to hold up somewhere.

 

We need to go to a licensing system, that requires a mental health check up every 2 years or so, to own assault weapons and guns that accept high capacity magazines.
