Honestly I'm not sure he wants to compete against Lagway. Lagway seems like the heir apparent and the centerpiece of the class. If Simmons hadn't reclassified to this year and was waiting a year, maybe things would be different.

Simmons had his chance to come a year early and have a big advantage of being ahead in the starter role next year. Maybe he thinks he can’t keep the job.

 

Simmons not only missing the boat for UF football, but he aspired to play baseball too. Look at how well the BB program is doing. He could have came here and hedged his bet at becoming a pro athlete... eveb if he lost the starting qb job to Lagway in the future.

Yeah, but that’s kinda his title since his TN days. We just kept the dunce hat in storage until he re-joined the conference. Now….he’s back, and it still fits.

 

I’m not so sure. If this was strictly Austin’s decision without other influences I feel pretty certain he would be in a Gainesville dorm room right now.
