Athletic Director Scott Stricklin provided fans with weather update for EWU [Game On Sunday]

Saturday will be major recovery in North Central FL...seems odd to be entertained by a game. Campus will be closed Wed to Friday.

 

Posted something similar on the den thread, but yeah, it goes l beyond the weather over the weekend.
Like whether authorities want the roads clear for evacuees returning home and not 10’s of thousands of people driving in for a game.
Hotel space for those who need it.
Availability of police, fire etc.
The ten inches of rain Gainesville is supposed to get later this week.
The players having to play when their families might need help at home.
EWU’s ability to fly into town.
Among other things.

But forecast could still change.

 

Yeah, situation doesn't look particularly good for a football game. If that storm is a Cat 4 coming off the Gulf, there will be some trouble in paradise. Even if a 4 tames to a 3 that's still a lot of rain.

I hope everyone remains safe. Not to be greedy but I hope we don't lose any more Oak Canopy in Gainesville or St. Augustine. Last one thinned everything out. Some of those big trees, I assume, are pre civil war.

Yea it’s not happening as currently planned. My guess the only reason it hasn’t been announced yet is they are trying to formulate an alternative.

 

Most likely trying to figure out an alternative plan. They need to call it soon...folks need to hunker down and prep for storm and recovery and not traveling for a game.

 

In the past, this has been done on Thursdays ('04, '16, '17). People need to make their best decisions for storm prep regardless of whether or not the game is scheduled. No announcement yet suggests that there is still an outside chance that the storm may weaken and/or otherwise not demand resources that would conflict with hosting the game. They may be pretty certain they are going to cancel it, but why not wait as long as you can in case things change?
