MD Anderson is the best in the business. I had elevated liver levels and found out there is an auto-immune disease that attacks the Liver. They will check for that. My prayers are with you!

    DawgFanfromAlabama-

This is pretty miserable news. We are praying for you - I certainly am. A buddy of mine got diagnosed with Auto Immune hepatitis. Not super common. Prednisone up the wazoo forever, low energy. But didn't get cancer. Got his numbers back in order.

I hope the Good Lord gives you some time; that precious commodity.

My brother in law had what you got. Do whatever you've got to do to get your things in order asap. Then fight it like a son of a bitch. That's all you can do. And pray. He finally got hospice at home and had the good fortune of having all of his loved ones with him.

    God Bless you.

Please feel free to PM me if you feel like talking. I became the point man in my brother in laws fight and do have some insight and experience. I'll just share the truth. There might be a happy Bulldog waiting to lick your face when you go home. But the key is staying on this side of the fence as long as possible if the Lord is willing and generous with his time.:emoji_pray:

    Go Gators.:)

    Hang in there! Seriously!

I was diagnosed with tongue cancer about a year and a half ago. I've never been a smoker.

I had jaw pain in my lower right jaw for several years. Went to a dentist maybe 6 years and he said it was a wisdom tooth and I went to an oral surgeon to have it removed. Pain persisted. Went to a different oral surgeon and he said the fir oral surgeon had left part of the tooth in and I needed to have that removed and went ahead and did the other 3. That helped for about 2 months but the pain came back.

About a year later my son had his wisdom teeth out from the first oral surgeon and he remembered me. Looked at my scans and said it wasn't tooth related and I needed to see an ENT because he thought it was something like Eagle syndrome (I think that's what he called it).

So I went to the ENT and he's a pretty reputable one. He examined me and said there was nothing wrong with me and to go home and take ibuprofen. I told him I had been taking 9-12 a day between my knee and the jaw and that just wasn't doing it. So just to appease me, he sent me for a CT scan and they found a tumor deep inside my tongue.

It took them about 9 months, input from several oral cancer specialists around the country reviewing my case and 3 nasty biopsies to determine it was cancer, the whole time reassuring me they really didn't think there was any real chance it was a cancer because it's extremely rare for any form of oral cancer to have no visible signs because they almost always start at the surface and work into the mouth tissue. I had no visible signs in my tongue or throat.

Fortunately, I was sent to Emory Hospital which is truly one of the best head and neck cancer centers anywhere (but the hospital itself sucks a$$). I had a nasty surgery where they removed about half of my tongue and reconstructed it with skin and tissue from my arm.

I was in the hospital for a week during the absolute peak of covid and my wife couldn't even come see me. I couldn't talk to her because I had a trachea tube and couldn't speak. And I couldn't communicate to nurses or doctors other than nodding or typing on my phone.

It was a pretty miserable period in my life. My wife and I were both worried I may have a feeding tube for the rest of my life and my life would never be the same.

But oddly enough, my recovery went VERY well. I was back to work in 1 week, albeit in a limited capacity (I was told 3 months minimum). It took a couple of months of pureed food and another few months of swallowing and speech therapy but my life now is pretty much back to normal. My speech is a little slurred and it eat much slower. And there's always a risk that it will come back.

The point is that cancer is something you can beat or at least learn to live with. But cancer absolutely sucks!!!!!

MD Anderson is very good. My mom was treated for her cancer there and she has been clear for 15+ years.

    You can beat this!

Best wishes to you Dawg. MD Andersen is one of the best, have known a couple of friends with great outcomes there. Stay strong, hope there are many more cocktail parties coming your way. Good rivals like you make it what it is.

Cancer can be beat, Dawg. First week of Jan 2005 I was told I had a little better than 50% chance to see Christmas 2005. Stage 4 DLBCL. Aggressive lymphoma, but because it is aggressive it is treatable. Six months of chemo, lost every hair on my body. I was the ugliest t-ball coach and Cub Scout leader in the panhandle. Prayer, maintaining a sense of humor and normalcy, and support of family and friends and coworkers got me through, along with some powerful chemicals. Whatever your course of treatment, you can persevere and win! Oh, and I wore lots of orange and blue, you should try that, too. Prayers for you my SEC brother.
