By: Eric Fawcett -- October 25, 2023 When San Francisco transfer Julian Rishwain announced his commitment to Florida, he wasn’t expected to have much of an impact in the 2023-24 season. What The Gators Can Expect From Julian Rishwain | GatorCountry.com
A nice article. I prefer to keep it simple. If he can shoot the ball well in the early games and not look bad on defense, I think he can be a "need a 3-shooter" kind of person to come in on occasion. That may be the difference between getting to the Sweet 16 and being a bubble team. But if he looks kind of flimsy and doesn't have good lateral quickness, unless he is shooting around the 45% mark on 3s, he will be shut down and redshirted.
Agree ! I think we could have done way better than this .absorbing a scholarship to a guy who can’t play at an SEC level and only getting him because he was a good worker at fricken SANFANCISCO Univ?.
Lol….a one year scholarship to a kid who could very well provide some situational help during certain games. Have you seen him play?
An earlier than expected return is good news. We knew this was a space filling flyer on a guy that brings leadership and knowledge and used to be a lights out shooter. Let's see how it plays out. Best case: He finds his shot, can defend in the SEC, our O gives him catch and shoot opportunities, and he ends up providing 5-10 valuable minutes off the bench. Worst case: He's a great lockerroom addition and a solid practice player that leaves after this season. It's not like we turned someone away for him.
You probably were pretty good too and you wanted to be here but you weren’t good enough. Scholarships are precious dude . As a mid level program we have to do better . Wake up !
There was a cheating scandal in he late 70’s, and the Jesuit fathers shut down the b-ball program for a couple of years, then de-emphasized it.
I Assume you have seen the kid play now… Since you gave me a “come on man” in my previous reply. The kid belonged on the court last night against Virginia
Wing came on pretty strong against a kid who had never even stepped on the court for Florida. We'll give him a chance to eat his crow. LOL!
I mean… he’s 1-2 from 3 in each game so far and averaging 3ppg. That poster was way off base, but not exactly “crow eating time” either. That being said, I’m pretty sure even Golden’s expectation is for him to come off the bench to provide minutes and pop a couple of 3’s. There is no downside as it didn’t take a scholly away from any high rated prospect. It is just a kid he is familiar with. No problem with that. His stroke looks good.
He moves around pretty good, has length and a good shooting stroke. He will need to defend threes better and that goes for the whole team!
We should reserve the crow eating for the multitude who said that the loss of EJ Jarvis wouldn’t hurt us.
I never said anything about eating crow but was replying to his come on man to my previous post to his post that the kid was a wasted scholarship.
Jarvis would have made a difference last night especially till Hough and Condon grow up. There is a lot to like how those kids move on the court. Hough looked like a PG bringing the ball up the court the one time.
