That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on GC.

Agreed...the offense was actually pretty serviceable from the 20 to the 20 most of the year but when the field got compressed the play calls flat out sucked. Most of the time it was scratch out 3 yard plays and dont test the end zone when we got there and against a compressed defense it resulted in field goals instead of tds....now wake me up when we properly run a two minute offense before or after the first half. When I see it happen Ill know weve improved the play calling.

Okay so not to discolor or misinterpret your thoughts, we agree that play calling for down and distance with opposing Defensive tendencies in mind can be significant? I've been trying to rethink my notion that a good>OC makes a difference, having never thought any and every play works if and only if the QB is "great".

    I doubt that.

Only want to say that I hope collaboration doesn't mean a group of coaches is involved in-game deciding what to call. I doubt Chip Kelly had to get several offensive minds to sign off on his next call.

A good OC for example like Spurrier can make any average QB look good just as a great QB can make cave man ball look better... No one can convince me a guy like Spurrier could even coach up Skink to be a Heisman candidate.

Great qbs make plays in the red zone. Of course, you cant call three dives in a row but it doesnt take a genius to use the entire field and take shots. If runs are called, the pkaycaller generally does not trust his qb.

Perhaps we could start with a statue and work our way back from there. Hey, I’ve had a brick in the Gator Walk for almost 30 years

I’m not sure I agree with that. And I’ve been mentioned in recent discussions as a potential Heisman candidate.

One thing that stands out statistically last season was our ratio of FGs to TDs in the RZ. I don't care how we do it. We ran for many TDs in the RZ and it worked. I love our run game, for the most part. It's going to be better this season. Whatever it takes.

I love our run game too but we also saw DJ throw a bad interception in the endzone in the bowl. That changes playcalls. Runs are necessary for passing but you must have confidence in the qb or playcalling suffers. Why pass ever if the runs work but good defenses require balance and a good qb to avoid so many fgs.

A serious question...why Russ as OC? Doesn't look like any experience as OC that is meaningful and our TE's were non existent last year and really were a weak part of the offense. Am I missing something here?

Not sure what to make of it but I found this which if accurate isnt as glowing a resume as it would seem but time will tell.

"What a strange history of back-and-forth from one side of the ball to the other and back again. He played QB for Valdosta, then spent a few years as Kirby Smart’s main GA assistant for working with LBs at Alabama, then spent about five years as the WR coach/QB coach/OC at Murray State and Samford, then spent a year apiece as an offensive analyst at LSU (2020) and the Giants (2021), before moving back to the D side of the ball as a defensive analyst with Florida this last year. And now he’s back to offense again.

This dude must either have an impressive wealth of football knowledge for someone his age, or it’s a puddle a mile wide and two feet deep."

Talk of Callaway implementing more mesh routes into the offence. That's change.
