New way to raise money and increase visibility: all road games and all powerhouse teams so the entire nation can watch us get our asses kicked. Good times.
Well I enjoy successful seasons too but I'm sure you have noticed that the "standard" really hasn't been around much since 09. In fact outside of SOS's 12 years and Urbans 6 years you may want to fact check yourself about what UFs "standard" really is, historically speaking of course. Florida football did NOT, start in 1990.
Oh, I’m more than aware of our losing ways before Spurrier came along. But as the saying goes…..”He set the standard”. He showed us what a waking giant looks like. If you are ok with going to pre-Spurrier standards, have at it. I still think we have the potential to be champions again with the right personnel. 6-6 in year three at Florida is not acceptable.
Question. Could a school decide to remove the hc as hc and move him to an administrative position vs just handing him over money? Is there a clause in the contract that prohibits that?
Lovely to turn this into "pre-Spurrier standards" Have at it. Thats just rude and you puffing your chest out to make your point. BTW feel free to fire Napier and hire a new coach.........if you have the pull that is.
Did I say anything about firing Napier? No. This is the third leg of his journey and I'm hopeful for a great outcome, like every year. How is it rude that I basically reworded what you said in your previous post, about "Florida football didn't start in the 1990s". Those were your exact sentiments about standards. I happen to think the standards changed when Spurrier got here. So we agreed to disagree on that. What's the problem? If you don't want to discuss your 6-6 requirement and defend your position, then there's really no much else for us to discuss.
Every Gator fan wants to win. Whether you are not ok or ok with some standard is irrelevant to how the team performs. CBN's record first two years is not what any gator fan would want. Whether he gets a 'grace period' of another year, two or three as compared to going out after 3 years (for the fourth time) and starting over is really the question, and it has nothing to do with the standard you mention. I would only speculate that if he demonstrates to the money people and admin that we are heading in a good direction he will get that grace period.
Are you arguing that 6-6 should not be a minimum standard at Florida? Let's see what the standard has been over the last 20 years WOS&M (w/0 Spurrier and Meyer). 1984............9-1-1 1985............9-1-1 1986............6-5 1987............6-6 1988............7-5 1989............7-5 2002............8-5 2003............8-5 2004............7-5 2011............7-6 2012...........11-2 2013...........4-8 2014...........7-5 2015...........10-4 2016...........9-4 2017...........4-7 2018...........10-3 2019...........11-2 2020...........8-4 2021...........6-7 Total...........154-90-2 Thats an average of 7.7 wins and 4.5 losses during the non Spurrier/Meyer years. Now how is 6-6 not a realistic minimum standard? Edit: I see that you were suggesting 6-6 as a minimum and that nawlins deems that unacceptable.
You are correct. Us as fans...our standards don't matter. Boosters are a different story. If we are going to go with hard numbers, I think 6-6 will get him fired.
I don't have "requirements" I have hopes. I merely suggested Napier may need to turn this thing around and get to 6-6 if he wants to remain employed. As far as wants, 15 - 0 sounds pretty good but seems a bit far fetched at the moment. Your "rudeness" is to suggest advocating for turning a 5 - 7 (no bowl) season into at least 6 - 6 and a bowl birth season in 24, Is somehow beneath your dignity and the dignity of Gator Nation. Sure I can mimic you and demand a playoff birth or unbeaten season but that IS NOT the current reality on the ground at UF. Anyway its a fruitless argument, you and I can bitch and moan all we want but the scoreboard will reflect the "Gator Standard" last year, this year and the upcoming year(s).
What the heck is wrong with everyone ? Go ask Mr. NOLA if 7.7 wins is "his" definition of the "Gator Standard"? I posted I thought 6 - 6 and a bowl birth "might" keep Napier employed. As far as what I want - Will 15 - 0 mollify you? Gee-zuss
Maybe check the mirror and re-read the posts you're responding to. You appear to be the only one who's become agitated in the midst of a mere discussion. Sometimes our notions are challenged by folks with different opinions. Is this the way you always react?
Yeah, the proof is in the pudding and if the production isn't what it needs to be then there aren't any excuses. There is a culture gong on within the program that needs to be fixed. I remember when people were upset that Peyton Manning chose Tennesse over Florida and Spurrier said something to the effect of "we are happy we have a bunch of guys who want to be Gators". I think that is what is missing now. But then again I am just guessing. All I know is there is something that needs fixing! I have nightmares that next year Lagway enters the portal!
Wow, as soon as my head stops spinning from that interesting read I will figure out how to explain if you take every coach through the time and then mix it up, you can pretty much come up with a theory. I’ll bet I can make a case with all those samples that the main factor was who wore plaid boxers was the better coach. That said, I am good with Napier. I just think that article proves we analyze the data too much and then it proceeds to do the same. Winning and losing one point games or whatever it was has way too much chance than to use the stat as a barometer for anything.
Adjusted to Vandy standards? Then stop asking for donations or hell just close the football program down if we don’t care enough to expect at least a measly 7 wins a season.
The standard is what you have set for the past few years. Do you think UGA fans don’t expect to compete every single year because they sucked in the 90s? No recency bias plays a factor in to what people expect. Standards change, no player cares what Florida was when Dickey or Pell was coaching, heck they don’t even know who they are. You are what you are for maybe 5-10 past seasons. Right now we are middle to bottom of SEC and probably a few other conferences. Winning will change that perception.
You would be surprised, what the Boosters won't put up with. 27 mill would be a hard pill to swallow, but don't bet that it's not a possibility.
I’m hoping for the best. Hope he wins 8 games this year. But if he only wins 6 games, I’m willing to wager you that he is fired.
