By: Nick Marcinko -- October 11, 2022 Louisiana running back, Montrell Johnson, entered the transfer portal on January 5th of 2022. Eight days later, Johnson transferred to the Florida Gators. This was one of the more impactful additions of the offseason. Johnson was just a true freshman in 2021, but that didn’t stop Napier from giving him the football. Johnson ran the ball 162 times, totaling 838 rushing yards and a team high 12 touchdowns. Montrell Johnson hasn’t skipped a beat in Gainesville | GatorCountry.com
He's the whole package. If he stays 2 more years the sky is the limit he could be one of the Gator greats. I want to see him and Etienne in the backfield together for 2 more years.
So much for sunbelt players unable to handle the speed of the game … smh If you are good doesn’t matter what conference you are in. Looks like Torrence will make all SEC as well. I’ll take sunbelt Billy.
The kid is a big-time baller, no doubt. We are very fortunate. Then look at that big offensive line dude Napier brought along. I apologize, I'm forgetting his name. He's a national star. So, yes, it doesn't matter, if you're really good, you can suit up pretty much anywhere. Go Gators.
Thanks. I should know that kids name by heart. Now I do. We need more of him. I'm afraid guys like him only come along once in a while. I sure hope I'm wrong on that. Go Gators.
The best thing I can say, and that is a lot, is that Napier has an eye for talent and what he wants for his system. You just don't get those players to sign to a UL program.
Fun Fact 1: Montrell originally committed to Arizona, but reopened his recruitment after Kevin Sumlin got fired. Fun Fact 2: The only SEC offers Montrell had out of high school were Tennessee (2019) and Vanderbilt (2020). Fun Fact 3: Montrell pulled the trigger on ULL the day before Signing Day 2021 after looking at other in-state options LATech and Tulane. “I chose ULL because they have a great football program. They finished top 25 in the nation last season for the first time ever,” Johnson told The Daily Advertiser. “I also believe that ULL can develop me as a football player and as a young man.”
