By: Eric Fawcett -- October 23, 2022 For the first time this year the Gators were able to throw on jerseys and take on a different team–a “secret scrimmage” with Miami that took place in Gainesville over the weekend. While the NCAA has been loosening up rules about “secret scrimmages” (they used to be just that, secret–teams weren’t allowed to say they happened and faced theoretical consequences if news about them came out, leading to plenty of ghost stories about secret scrimmgaes that did or didn’t take place) but still they aren’t events that media and fans are allowed to be at. However, there were still internal people from both programs that were at the event who were happy, under the veil of anonymity, to share what happened. This is great stuff. The good news is it sounds like defensive rebounding was where we struggled and even though size obviously impacts rebounding, effort and positioning are most important and that can be corrected.
Not too worried after reading this. It sounds like CC hardly played at all in the last two quarters. In effect, we sat our best player in order to get younger guys more minutes and to try to get other guys going. And our starting point guard didn't play at all, as a precaution. I agree with both moves. Sounds like Fudge struggled a bit on offense, and Trey on defense. But Kowacie was a beast.
Sounds like a great learning experience. Wouldn't have been shocked to hear new players in a new system struggling in first scrimmage against a quality opponent so very encouraging. Sounds like they held their own even without the floor General.
I guess if we didn’t keep score and that was just tallied by the staff afterwards, then it’s meaningless. If we kept score and played as such, then it’s not meaningless is my point.
It was meaningless because Lofton didn't play and Castleton sat the second half. The point is that we shouldn't look too deeply into the final score.
Methinks this is like the football team getting Shorter, a 5* talent that did not do as well as his rating. And it took him a while to get where he thought he should be in skill. It appears as if Fudge has reasons he wasn't playing that much last year. I am just glad he isn't THE piece we got to compete for a championship.
Florida went with a starting lineup that included Colin Castleton at center, C.J. Felder at forward, Kowacie Reeves at forward, Trey Bonham at point guard and Riley Kugel at shooting guard.
Jeez just from reading that you got all that about Fudge? Or could it mean that a guy who more experience then Fudge, played many minutes in the SEC and is finally healthy is just having a really good fall pratice? I have heard both have been good, they just like Fudge and Will with the 2nd group.
