For the majority of college basketball teams the season is over, with only about a quarter of programs lucky enough to play in a postseason tournament. That means that the deluge of transfers has begun and the portal is starting to fill with players looking for new homes.

Any idea if the Davidson kid, Steph Curry, is any good?

One out of how many? Our best player this year came from Michigan.

And Will Richard, arguably our 2nd-best, came from Belmont.
Anyhow...Steve Nash. Karl Malone. John Stockton. Larry Bird. George Gervin. David Robinson. Scottie Pippen. Dennis Rodman. Robert Parish. Bill Russell. Ja Morant. Kawhi Leonard. Small college players suck.

Many, many kids who played for mid-majors, low-majors and junior colleges have gone on to be really good power 6 conference players. That includes Markquis Nowell, the little point guard from Little Rock who transferred to Kansas State and wiped the floor with us this season. Even at UF, in fairly recent years, John Egbunu, Canyon Barry, Egor Koulechov and Justin Leon all excelled for the Gators.

I never said small college players suck. I guess Gatorplanet just assumes things. Yes, those were good players you mentioned but I know we beat Mizzou but there is the dance and they got 10 players from big names schools and we are not in the dance.

If you look at the list of schools pursuing him, this isn’t some McElwain diamond in the rough deal.

Were those guys all-league players, or did they leave previous big name programs due to lack of PT?

There is no such thing as a sure thing. Jones scored at Penn State, but struggled mightily here. Some guys leave major programs because they aren’t getting PT or aren’t cutting it. I’d say getting a guy seeking PT from a high major or a statistical leader of a mid-major (esp if they produced in games agains high majors) are basically the same thing. Maybe the high major recruit has more theoretical upside, the guy who was a leader on a small team at least brings game experience, but still no such thing as a sure thing. Coaches job is to evaluate good fits. It’s a thing that plays out after a few years, as you see their rate of busts and transfers out vs. their home runs.

The article said he isn't mobile. Don't we already have center that fits that description?

Thanks for efawcett’s article about a -possible- transfer. None of us have a clue about the coaching staff’s opinion, or how he might stack up against other possible transfers or even HSers

After watching some video, he looks a lot more mobile than the center I believe you're referencing. Get him down from 250 to 240 and he'll be strong and quick. Gator training can work wonders for him if we get him in for Summer A.
BTW, he was 1st-team all-conference in his league.

Gates brought four players to Mizzou with him from Cleveland State. Another from Milwaukee. Another from Northern Iowa. Some of them are his best players. Big schools?

I’m not saying BJ Mack isn’t any good, but we need serious splash players to be any better next year.
