Sorry I'm getting this up so late this time . . . Nick did a great job for us, as usual. By: Nick Marcinko -- November 11, 2024 Florida head coach Todd Golden met with the media following the Gators’ 86-62 win over Grambling State on Monday night. It was Golden’s first public statements since the Title IX complaint against him, which alleged sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, and stalking. Just watched the presser. Q: How does it feel to be still out here coaching despite the allegations? A: Fells normal to be honest. This is my job. It's my position at the moment and we'll continue to do it.
one would think that if he thought his position would change, he would step back and allow the staff to get their feet beneath them well before conference play began
Perhaps that groundwork is being laid as we speak. Like everything in this situation, we just don't know.
CTG statements suggest a cautious but measured confidence in handling the situation. His tone is reserved, rather than showing overt confidence or defiance. He seems respectful of the situation & the sensitivity of it. He acknowledged the investigation multiple times and wasn't dismissive in that. Not attacking the process suggests there's no panic or doubt about the situation. When he said it "feels like normal" to continue coaching despite the investigation, it implies he feels a secure sense of control over his coaching duties. There's no anxiety about the investigation. The phrase "it's my position at the moment" conveys a sense of duty to me but it could also indicate he knows the process could swing against him. Remember, this isn't a legal proceeding that requires a stringent degree of proof. He emphasizes the support from his family, team, and coaching staff which indicates that he feels backed by them. His confidence in his players' maturity and ability to handle distractions suggests they have faith in his leadership. Although he acknowledges that the situation is "challenging," he does not appear overly distressed. He's addressing it with a matter-of-fact tone. His willingness to answer questions, even with limitations, shows he is willing to confront the situation head-on. He'd "love to be able to give you more" so he doesn't want to hide anything, another sign of confidence.
That was my interpretation, but you stated it so much more eloquently than what would have come from my keyboard.
As a Gator, I'll admit my bias in presenting this positively. However, I tried to make a fair assessment of how his comments appeared to me.
