By: Nick Marcinko -- March 15, 2023 During the offseason, Florida gave assistant coach Corey Raymond control over the entire secondary after working with just the cornerbacks in 2022. The decision surfaced after Patrick Toney’s departure to the NFL, but handing the keys to Raymond was the plan all along. Corey Raymond eliminates gray area in Gators’ secondary | GatorCountry.com
"Raymond may have to rely on inexperienced players..." Well, hell, couldn't be worse than the experienced players that left.
And with the new DC I think they want to play far more aggressive defense with more freaking blitzes than that passive crap we played last year. With the right players we can play like we did in the 3rd quarter of the UGA all game/year long. Just like our recent glory days. Now... if we can only get the offense to learn the slant pass.
At this point of watching UF football, words mean zilch. I've read in spring and fall practice, "eliminate grey areas", "we're together", "so and so is tearing it up", yada yada yada. So my approach to Gator football at this point is to expect the worst and hope for the best. But that's just me Donny Downer
The combine showed us why we couldn’t trust them safeties to cover back there so that may be one reason.
Yes, becasue we had no depth. But track times and football speed are still to different things. We did well for one full 3rd quarter against the best team in the nation last year. We forced 3 turnovers but what really killed us was the lack of depth.. more so than the lack of speed. But more speed is still good. All I'm saying that the reason why we lost easy games last year was far more than the lack of back-end speed.
