You’re saying you want to send the talent somewhere other than college. That’s going to water down the league.

Baseball is not football. There is some crossover talent, but by and large, it’s a different demographic. At least as far as US talent is concerned.

We seem to have this conversation every off-season. The NFL did attempt a minor league…The World League of American Football, and later NFL Europe. It wasn’t profitable. Why foot the bill when colleges are willing to do so?

I don't know who made more money, but attendance at college football games dwarfs NFL attendance.

    Not being snarky.

Are you referring to the coming day when college football will be the minor/development league for the NFL?

The article talks about how the football component could break off from the NCAA and be its own separate business. I wouldn’t say minor/developmental league in the sense that it has anything to do with the NFL, but I could see the P2 schools having the money and influence to create their own national college league.

The NCAA, universities and coaches have no one to blame for this except themselves.

They took advantage of the players for a century and now the chickens have come home to roost.

Yeah, but there wouldn't be that many pro spots either, so it comes out in the wash. Watered down, but with better execution and coaching due to greater commitment and time in the program? Again, a wash. Since I root for the uniform and not the 40-time, overall that would be a plus for people like me.

Either way, it's water under the bridge. College football has already been destroyed and there's no putting genie back in the bottle.

    If
there were 32 nfl minor league teams, we would still watch whatever was left just as we watch college baseball more than minor leagues when a AAA team would most times destroy their college counterpart. Sure , talent is why we watch sec instead of Ivy League but there is still pro talent that plays baseball in college. Money would decide where the talent went in football much more.

Twenty years ago, not many of us saw the NIL coming in like it did.

The way things are going today, I believe that your prediction could be a reality one day.

It has to be on TV first before I could watch it. Never saw one on the guide.

I'm sure your 100% correct but my question is what do the Saudi's get out of it if nobody is watching it? They have more money than they know what to do with it and it's just a loss leader or status thing so they can feel good about themselves and not make money off it?

If the players aren't really students, is it a college football team?

Correct. It's a complete sham that the football coach makes 4.5x as much as the highest paid professor ( prof of surgery and pediatrics who also serves as director of the cardiology center ) at a public, land grant university.

It's the only profession I know of where working in academia doesn't come with low pay.

Nope. Just the kind that gives us Communism.

And, yep, I'm fond of companies that actually produce things rather than economic parasites that only look to extract.

Because one with direct affiliation with existing teams and fanbases would have 1000x greater chance of surviving than something based in Europe, with completely new teams and players from various teams sprinkled all over. Again, it doesn't matter because the bad guys already won.
