I always do. I’m happy to be playing a known Arkie over a scrappy St. John’s. I will be rooting, probably foolishly for UCLA as Tenn could demolish them but I had put UCLA in the elite 8 as my girlfriend went to UCLA and I’ve gone to many games this year at The Polly and if the Gators weren’t here, I’d be rooting for them plus and I guess you can call me superstitious but they had a part in both of our last two NCs. I believe the first for the championship and one either 8 or 4. So will be rooting for them to beat Tennessee which I would never put money on.
Yes. More or less, don't like those overrated chants. My secondary rooting interest is in the local team, New Mexico, which won its first game. Think they're done after that, though.
And just one more thing (maybe). I never have told a friend or a distant relative that I love them, but with a bit of a risk of dying from the initial brain procedure, I felt compelled to reach out. I wrote thank you and “I love you” texts to all my friends (golfing and fishing buddies) and family (my wife, my children, my 3 son-in-laws, brothers, first cousins) the night before the procedure. Took pretty much all night and I was crying as I wrote, but it was incredibly cathartic, made me feel really, really good. After my procedure the next morning I had a lot of very nice responses. Neat part is, a friend of mine liked it so much he’s sending all of his loved ones letters for Lent this year. OK guys, I’m gonna man up a little now. Enough of this wimbly, wambly, wombly stuff. Go Gators!
Yes in the sense that a strong SEC reputation helps with recruiting and seeding for Florida right now But Todd Golden is quickly getting Florida to the threshold that it doesnt matter, and after that I will cease to care.
As much as I dislike all things Aggie, I found myself rooting for them vs Michigan and their annoying fans. It's all relative I guess, depends on who the other sec teams are playing. Didn't help of course. Aggies lose 91-79.
Yeah, this is an interesting bridge to cross for those of us who came up in previous generations. The "I love you" statement and its variations is hard for us. Once you "go there," though, it becomes safe and welcome. I've had similar experiences with my friends. People born after the 70s probably don't get this.
I generally don’t have a particular interest in seeing the SEC do well in March, but this year is a little different. Would love to see us justify those 14 bids. But my approach is more in the aggregate, not about particular teams (cause I don’t like most of them, haha). Mizzou was the only first round upset, A&M the only second round upset (by seeding) so far, while Arky beat a 7 and a 2. That pretty much offsets. If the league goes 3-1 today, that will offset, and will put 6 teams into the Sweet 16. I think that is pretty darn successful. Would have liked to see another one of those 6-11 seeds score an upset or two to justify the back half of the conference, but the top half is still holding its own. Ultimately, though, as long as Florida wins, I am cool with whatever.
Generally, yes. For all teams, no. What's good for the SEC is good for the Gators. If the league is perceived as strong, it enhances our chances to make the NCAAT.
Seven Sweet 16 teams is the new record for any conference. That should shut up the "SEC is overrated" crowd, but it won't.
If Tennessee wins a basketball NC, they will join us as the only SEC team to win a Natty in football, baseball and basketball. So, for that among many other reasons I want them gone.
I don't think they get out of their bracket. Either UK, Duke or Houston gets them. They're one fry short of a happy meal IMO. They're like 1-2 pieces away from being complete enough to be championship caliber. Just too many tiny holes that leave them susceptible in a way that comes to bite you in March when the heat turns up in the round of 32 on. Its not impossible. There have definitely been some championship teams that benefited from good draws/potential bad draws getting knocked out ahead of their potential match up. But they're gonna need some help from bounces in the UK game and/or Houston getting knocked out.
Seems like a good chance to have four in the elite 8, with one guaranteed, three favored, and two underdogs.
“The SEC now has 7 teams in the Sweet 16, the most for any conference ever at that stage of the NCAA Tournament.” The anti-SEC crowd finished opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament silently eating crow Good read!
