Fully guaranteed 4-year contract for $33,990,000. This includes a $21.72 million signing bonus. Report: Former Florida Gators QB Anthony Richardson, Colts agree to 4-year deal https://247sports.com/college/flori...e-contract-with-indianapolis-colts-213147597/
As I re-watch last year I can't help but wonder how he will do this year. He missed so many throws and reads!! The end of the first half vs TAMU he had an easy swing pass open to X- and he threw it 5 yards above his head! Would have been an easy first down! But wow did he make some amazing plays as well. Some of the best in our history. And he hit a lot of throws. So do those terrible throws/ reads just go away in the NFL after a year of coaching? Will the Colts be patient- or after a few losses will they take their shiny new toy off the shelf and see how he does? He's a great kid, so I hope he does well.
Love seeing these young men using their god-given abilities to help them generate generational wealth and take care of their families. Congrats Anthony, rep UF well!
Will AR put 34M worth of butts in the seats? That's the question. If he does he's worth every dollar of his contract.
Colts' Anthony Richardson begins receiving first-team reps early in training camp, dazzles with long TD pass
It's doable. Williams was the GOAT for 15 minutes and fielded the most idiotic question in the history of SB media week, viz., "How long have you been a black quarterback?")
Predicting 10 NFL starting quarterback battles: Who is QB1? Indianapolis Colts Candidates: Sam Ehlinger, Gardner Minshew, Anthony Richardson Richardson was the No. 4 pick in the '23 draft, and therefore, the Colts' plan is for him to be their starter at some point soon -- and ideally, for a long time. But there were pre-draft concerns, voiced by many, that Richardson's off-the-charts talent might need some time to refine itself before he is ready to start NFL games. That's the reason the Colts have Minshew there. Having worked with new coach Shane Steichen when the two were in Philadelphia together, Minshew knows the offense, and the Colts are confident he could handle the role if asked to start while Richardson continues to develop. They aren't ruling out the possibility that Richardson could start Week 1, though. They just don't have enough information yet to determine whether he'll be ready. After all, Richardson started just 13 games at Florida. "He's a great kid, but he's young," Colts GM Chris Ballard told reporters in Indianapolis at the start of training camp. "There's going to be some up-and-down moments in camp. There's going to be some up-and-down moments when he eventually plays. I'll lean heavily on our coaching staff and what they think he can handle and think he's ready for. When the coaching staff thinks he's ready to go, then we'll play him." Week 1 starter prediction: Even if he still needs refining as a passer, Richardson will offer enough as a runner that he'll be the Colts' best option right out of the chute. And he may not even need as much refining as a passer as many thought he would. I say Richardson starts Week 1.
I read somewhere (reputable) he split snaps previously but is the clear QB2 right now. The Colts coach said something about working AR in . . . in a methodical way. The offense has to almost be hurry-up so AR doesn't have to think too much at this point since he's so new. I guess they're hoping he catches on and can be put in when he gets past a certain stage knowing their playbook . . . but, again, as of now he's QB2. I could see him starting by mid-season and definitely later in the season, if not already by then. * * * * * Edit: I found the SI article: https://www.si.com/college/florida/...ardson-indianapolis-colts-training-camp-debut Their coach actually said it would probably be sooner rather than later when AR begins starting . . . but probably not Week 1.
Reminds me of Steve Martin's line in The Jerk (a white kid being raised by a black family): "You mean I'll always be this color?"
AR could be better than Cam Newton or worse than Jamarcus Russell. We just don't know and won't know for awhile.
The young man achieved his personal goal of cashing in on his fabulous physical abilities and deserves congratulations for doing so. After all, who wouldn't - outside of the Wuerfels, Spurriers, Tebows, etc., etc.? But FTR, it is apparent that UF was never more than a means to and end for AR and that he is still a long way from being a well-developed major college QB. All of which was made readily evident as the '22 season played out. Frankly, AR was a bit of a chimera at UF - all fantastical possibilities with diddley squat for meaningful results and an early departure to seal the deal. We will have to wait to see if his legend turns out to be any more substantive in the NFL.
