Only one team can win the NC, that seems self explanatory. I didn’t say OC=NC, you boiled it down to that, not me. It was a big factor though, bringing in Chip Kelly towards finally winning another NC for them, that’s what I’m saying. Ignoring that, well you know. Bringing in Jim Knowles was a big factor too. Oklahoma is trying to buy him right now. The Bucknuts have two elite coordinators, Florida has neither. Yes, it also takes a roster loaded with elite players, not something Florida has either. I for one hope all 3 legs of the stool get far better here, sooner rather than later.
So many head coaches have failed over the years because of their failure to recognize their weaknesses. Billy’s biggest weakness IMO is game day decision-making …. and that’s the job of a dedicated OC. He’s proven that he can organize a program, recruit and motivate which should be all you need to be a successful head coach if all the other pieces are in place. That’s why this decision is so disappointing to me. A couple of examples from Gators history, I personally think will muschamp could’ve been an excellent head coach if he had been willing to recognize his limitations on the offensive side of the ball, which he failed to do no matter where he went. Even SOS did not reach his greatest potential until he realized he needed to hire a top defensive coordinator (and admitted to himself that the shotgun was an OK formation to use ) not surprised by the announcement, but disappointed nevertheless.
100% correct except for the fact Muschamp never INSISTED on being the OC and while he certainly reigned in any tempo offense he at least recognized he wasn't the guy who excelled on that side of the ball and he didn't feel he could be both the head coach and OC at the same time. He even recognized offensive failures and made changes as the offense didn't click...BN though is same square peg and round hole over and over until he gets one play to work. Stubborn, oblivious and unadaptable is not something to be in the SEC.
CBN has built a very impressive roster from the ground up. Established a strong relationship with Florida’s high school coaches, shown an eye for talent, runs a clean program and his players appear to be higher character people than teams such as Georgia. Like Pogba, I want him to stay but this is the year we really MUST show up on the field. Otherwise all of the good work he has done is for naught.
You’re ignoring the clear fact that he’s improved significantly over just a year ago. We can run him off or set unrealistic expectations going forward, because he should have had us at this level 2 years ago, but what does that accomplish? Nobody likes it, but the only logical path is to consider the first 2 seasons as water under the bridge and reset everything to right now. 9 wins is realistic for next season, and 10 for 2026. It might also make sense to consider that his play calling the past 2 seasons has been compromised to a great degree by poor execution. 3 years in, we finally have a functional team. I’m expecting the play calling to look better too next season
Buckeye fans were ready to run Kelly out of town after the Michigan game. Go look at their message boards. Some still want him fired. If not for the expanded playoff, OSU doesn’t win the national championship.
The second half of the year was a breath of fresh air. Our defense finally started hitting people and they learned how to tackle all of the sudden.
True, but it certainly helped that the big game wins (LSU/Ole Miss) were at home. Next year that wont be the case.
