So now you believe the CPI and not anecdotes? You guys are so confusing to debate with. I agree. CPI is the data we should use for inflation not anecdotal internet poster opinions.
Normal right wing tactic of arguing against something I never said. Link that claim. Regardless of your nonsense here you go:
How is that any different than your tactic of “So now you believe the CPI and not anecdotes?”. When did I say I don’t believe in CPI? Please provide a link. However, I’m still referencing the post that says people who complain about grocery prices are just ignorant and bad at math. Prices are much higher than when Biden took office.
It’s hilarious that this person thinks he’s paying the same about from 2019. Just laugh at that poster and ignore them
Again..my post said the CPI exists cuz people have no idea overall what prices have changed over time. They get dazzled by anecdotes. Half this thread is 95 claiming the figures are wrong then listing random items with prices no one is paying. If you’re fine with the CPI and want to debate those numbers then I’m good.
I noticed you didn’t dispute im paying low prices for the items I listed. They’re anecdotes. That’s why cpi is a better view than items I post.
Lol, you keep thinking you only pay $6 more for groceries than last year. Oh yes, that noise you hear is everyone that goes shopping weekly laughing at you.
ok. So you don’t believe the CPI but apparently kygator does. Maybe you can convince him your anecdotal prices are better than the CPI.
How about if we’re talking about groceries, we just use the receipt and compare what we paid today to what we paid last year for groceries, on average …. seems simple enough.
Or we could survey 94,000 prices every month from 23,000 retail outlets, in areas that cover 94% of the population, weight them, and call it the CPI? One of the issues is, if beef goes up 9% and pork goes up 2%, consumers shift to buying more pork reducing the impact of beef on the budget. I know its hard to comprehend inside angry brains.
nope. Perception matters. People care about their own wallet. Everyone buys groceries. People don’t need the government to explain inflation to them, they live it. My grocery bill has gone up about 18% in the last year. I know this because I shop at Publix and use the app to pay, so I have every receipt. The voters know their own inflation. We will see if it matters at the next election.
Yep, ignore data cause you know. Just more right wing nonsense to discount expertise they don’t like. Just like election results, vaccination impacts, and environmental measures. Sigh. I actually don’t care if people are stupid. It’s your right but I will point it out.
or, perhaps ….just perhaps….I have faith in the common sense of my fellow Americans. Personal receipts and bank balances don’t tend to get manipulated by the “experts”….which of course in the only real data worth relying on.
So what percent of your spending is groceries? It is true that people/ voters will give outsize visibility to prices they see frequently, like food and gas. They may not think about items like rents or used car costs that may be just as big a portion, but are infrequent purchases.
You’re making shit up now. Manipulated data? Prove it. Right wingers lack the intelligence to debate on facts so they make shit up. Sort yourselves out.
you just nailed it. You don’t need any fancy Harvard index to tell you that you are spending more. You feel it when you go fill up your gas tank. A full tank used to cost $35 and now cost $50. You grocery bill was $60 and now is $80. Your auto insurance used to be $100 a month, and now it’s $150. The average American has no idea that the CPI exists and what is measures. @citygator - the manipulation of the index occurs when you include items that few people purchase, such as a rocking chair for example. Here is the food and beverage cpi from 2016 to present. Looks like Mt Fuji.
I just can't stop laughing at your brilliant contention that groceries only went up by $6 on a $200 bill. Just next level ignorant to the real world. Head back in the sand!
