Look, I agree CTG has come in and secured a lot of talent. But, I feel we were the Mash unit strung together with duck tape last year. I don’t want us to ever be without people under the basket that can score, rebound and defend. That is why you have thirteen scholarships to hand out. You can wear orange and blue glasses as you analysis the upcoming year, but I have seen this bring Florida down too many times. Recruiting and sharing athletes is a good positive way to keep a program in contention. I am all for CTG succeeding and building a consistent competitive team every night out. Let no stone get unturned.
If you’ve been reading my posts at all over the last few years, you would know that I don’t see things distorted through orange and blue glasses. Of course we want depth at the big man positions. However, we won the national title in 2006 with something like 9 players on scholarship. We would have been dead in the water if something happened to Brewer, Humphrey or Green. That’s the nature of college basketball. We can use another big man, but we should have a solid team even if we don’t get one. If you want some cheering up, go watch some video of Riley Kugel. You also should be ecstatic that Mike White has moved on.
I have watch Riley and all the new player videos, the guard positions are loaded. I am excited. As for Mike White, not a great recruiter, the new assistant he had was a good recruiter. followed him, as for CMW I felt he wore guys down on defense and had only a chuck and duck offense. He didn’t like any no look passes and exciting plays made by the players he had. So yea, glad we finally turned the page. Looking forward to the season I just don’t want to see us nine or ten available players left at the beginning of the SEC tournament or the big dance. We are snot short of depth before the season starts, but three of the four bigs, only one was available at the end of the season. We need another big and I hope Tony Livingston gets mentioned in his talks around the state as CTG goes to different cities. I know you say your feelings and are spot on, so could you ask CTG about Tony Livingston and any bigs we might be in on, if you go to any of the appearances or ask anyone who does and post it, I personally would appreciate it. Thxs in advance!
The best 2-way football/basketball player I have seen at UF is Jacoby Brissett. He was an elite level basketball player nationally in my opinion. He dominated at the City of Palms and kicked Nick Johnson’s butt all over the floor in a game that Dwyer played in Vegas. He was a point guard who could see the floor and pass the ball, and if he got isolated down low against the guy guarding him, it was an almost automatic basket. Unfortunately, he didn’t play basketball for the Gators. Tony Livingston is a very good basketball player. He is unselfish, passes the ball well, shoots well from outside and can score inside. However, he doesn’t look to me like a power conference player. He’s about 6’5” with average athleticism. The athleticism goes up somewhat when he is trimmed down, but I don’t see it if he plays at or around 250 pounds. He basically has a below the basket game. He likely would be the Gators’ 5th option at the 5 if TG does not sign another big man. I would like to see Tony play basketball as a 2nd sport if he can work it into his schedule, but I have a hard time seeing him getting much playing time. However, you never know.
he is at 225-230 after basketball season ended. He could be a power forward like Keyontae I would think, but who knows he is physical like Charles Barkley and has game. I would think CTG could use him at wing, power forward and guard, as a backup if injuries hit. At least talk to CBN and Tony both and see where their heads are at. If it works out he could practice and show his skills, he might find, he is not quick enough or maybe surprise! It is worth letting recruits know it is not out of the realm that you could play two sports at Florida and hone in on where your best spot for you to excel in D1 athletics. Both coaches want what is best for you in this new NIL/ transfer portal age, all good for both player and school. We will see later if their was any communication between coaches and Tony. One of the best players in two sports in high level Florida high school sports. Let’s let him find his spot to excel.
i was actually at UF during this time. People remember DS for his mullet or quitting the team after Norm Sloan was fired and captain Ahab was hired to finish out the season as HC. DS actually had very good numbers in terms of blocked shots, rebounds, assists and points while here. Agree he is not a Shaq and Neil Walk was a much more highly regarded Big prospect by the NBA, but DS is the most comparable in terms of height and 7 footers.
I thought I read somewhere that Tony was planning on trying to play both sports. We will see. I don’t have any connections to Tony or TG, but if I hear something, I will post it.
Well, Thomas Haugh, a forward, CTG and the program are trying to steer him to the Gators. Looks like a quality basketball savvy player. They say he is 6’9” and can dribble and finish around the rim. He shoots a high percentage of threes, but his highlights on the web show mostly him dunking. Come on down young man, get a high quality education and play big time D1 Basketall for a coach who knows how to use players on offense. This from Eric Fawcett on the home page. Some activity, I was afraid CTG had given up trying to get another big and go with twelve. I am hoping Thomas will be our next Chandler Parsons!
Wasn't Cornelius Ingram a decent hoopster too? I know he played small school ball but was pretty good as I recall?
He was a very good player. He might have even started a game or 2 for the Gators. Brissett struck me as being very similar to Deron Williams.
That’s changed. He has said that he plans to visit Florida and make a commitment very soon. He has not indicated whether he intends to enter college for this coming season or wait a year.
