I told all of you that our defense started sucking after Grantham took us from a 4-3 base to a 3-4 or 3-3-5 base...

I said we need to go to a modern 4-2-5 or a 4-3 type base... And guess what? OUR new DC is doing just that...

Our defense is going to ROCK YOU next year...

I read it. Agree that the 3-4 sucks when compared to a 4-3. Sadly, the Gators were in a 4 man front ~80%+ of the time last year, although it was very passive. You gotta have the dogs to win the sled race regardless of whether they are hitched up in tandem or nose to back. While I do expect (hope for) some improvement in our D this year, I also recognize that we lost our two best LB's, our best Lineman, and 4 of 5 DB starters. I understand addition by subtraction, but realistically it will take some time for new starters to gain game experience and mesh as a unit. One thing that bodes well, however, is it will be hard to be worse than last years historically bad defense was.

Bottom line to me is that we will be better on D in 2023, but it will not be by the leaps and bounds that we would all like to see. We may have to wait until 2024 to see that.

I'm always excited to see what the new players can do each year. I just think that our team may be a bit too green (I believe our talent level has increased) to really make huge strides on Defense (or Offense) in 2023. I do hope to see improvement as the year progresses, but our schedule is back-loaded in difficulty as is usual.

We will not be the same team. We have our base of good/decent players with new experienced position players along with good/great freshman class players to help out.

The thing that I noticed about last year's team, besides our schemes, were the lack of players... quality backups/numbers. We ran out of gas, because we had no real viable replacements for our starters in big games last year.

I have said this till I turned blue in the face. Watch the third quarter of the UGA game and see the type of defense

Austin Armstrong wants to implement that some scheme of defense all game long. We ran out of players last year, that's why we could not play that man press all game long. That is a defense that also requires a good healthy push up front and we just didn't have the man power to play that way all year long.

In that third quarter of last year's UGA game our defense caused three turnovers. That's the defense we are going to get this year. I hope that we can play that intense all game long is every game we play next year. But it will take at least one more safety and two more Big-Nasties on the D-line to make that happen. More good depth is needed.

You keep typing the same thing, but do you feel we didn’t run a lot of 4-2-5 last season?

I changed the LINKs in all of them... if you noticed. For some reason the link I had was not the same one that I posted (AT FIRST).
