Another (male) Karen - this time harassing Asians

I didn't read the charge(s) but imagine a hate crime would have to be coupled with something else. Seems to me that approaching a stranger, saying you could spit on them, saying you'll see them outside, etc., could arguably constitute fighting words and/or assault.

 

Sorry, the thread was political as soon as it was posted, just like you guys who post about Black crime (especially Black on White crime) are being political by posting it. Don't pretend that you don't engage in it.

And the guy in the video was total MAGA. MAGA is a despicable movement full of despicable people.

 

I hear you and that may be the case, but just words and no assault can get you arrested for a hate crime?? I get it if you are speaking in front of a group and enticing a riot but one on one? I'm not defending this POS at all, just where have we come to when hateful words alone get you arrested.

 

I have no problem with him being arrested. It's assault. We're not talking about a few angry words here. This guy was targeting people.

 

I agree he was targeting, and it was disgusting what he said, but we don't hardly arrest and keep in jail criminals that do bodily harm, that now we are arresting for words??

 

I don't know the relevant law there or the exact charges, though I did see a headline about a hate crime. When I use the word "assault," I'm typically referring to a verbal threat as opposed to a physical "battery" (which would obviously be a no-brainer). Generally, I don't think merely insulting someone - even with racial slurs - would constitute assault. At some point, I think even words alone can constitute a crime, and talking about spitting on people and meeting them outside may reach that level, I dunno.

You may be right. I just have a hard time with arresting someone for a hate crime on just words.

 

He said that he would "see them outside" and would show them "what he can do to them." He then sat outside the building and stared them down for 15 minutes, scaring the woman on the video half to death.

That's assault. The fact that he did it for racial reasons makes it a hate crime.

Charge him, convict him, and give him the max.
