He was also in need of going through the spring in the summer because he is still very inexperienced. Bringing him in for a few games at the end of the year and burning an entire year of eligibility really makes no sense because he’s probably going to be behind everyone anyway.

Can’t you play in like four games and are still able to redshirt?

Did you leave your job when one of your parents got sick? If not, congratulations.

You're just like most people. He's not. Why is this a sacred cow on this board? Jesus.

He has the right to do what he wants. All I'm saying is, it's a response that makes his life worse and it's not like he can do anything

sadly an inaccurate quote...in his biography the true quote ends...."it's the will to win that is everything ." Not saying you're misquoting the old wall poster by any means, just that Coach Lombardi was not some neanderthal thinker.

It’s also possible that my fifty year old memory is off?

    Another really bad take.

You are comparing a grown adult with a family to a 19 yr old college student. There’s a big difference in changing schools when you’re a student living by yourself on campus… than (in my case) pulling kids out of school, changing jobs, your spouse changing their job to uproot the family, 7 states away, to care for a dying parent. When my mother was dying, I was fortunate to have 2 brothers living close by to check on her …and I burned just about any PTO I had to fly back home every couple of months, for a few days at a time, to check in on her.

I don’t know what his home life or family dynamics consist of. And it’s really no one’s business. He’s a college student that is changing schools who happens to play football. And wants to be closer to home. A normal person wouldn’t have an issue with it.

Apparently it’s a bruins coach who said it. Still remember it as a Lombardi poster. Memory is weird though.

I’m actually staying for an extended time with my mom now (after my dad’s passing a month and a half ago) helping get her situation sorted to be able to live on her own. When you have the opportunity to do it, why not? There’s more important things in life than working or school or football for that matter.

Now we do see people use this as an excuse all the time to get out of a situation they don’t like so I can see maybe where you’re coming from. Work and family are easy excuses that society accepts. I choose to be here with my mom although it can get extremely frustrating at times. I know I will treasure it in the future.

It makes his life better because his mom is more important to him than his immediate plans. He has plenty of time.

You mean except that he can spend more time with his mother in the event this is her last little bit on earth? Cancer does not discriminate on who it takes out and how quickly it does it, and even with all of our discoveries we as humans have done, somehow a cure for cancer is yet to be one of them.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 12, she was lucky enough to beat it as she's in remission, but dont fool yourself, chemo and radiation treatments were no cure, it just managed to kill the cancer cells before it killed her. 28 years later she still tells me if it ever returns she will die before going through that again. If the kid wants to play football closer to home in order to see his mother without her having to bare the struggle of traveling so be it. Don't down the kid for trying.[/QUOTE]
