I, since growing up in Florida, have always thought a lot on this lack of basketball interest. My feelings are that Florida with so many things to do, etc surfing, swimming in the ocean, rivers springs and lakes, fishing freshwater and saltwater, scuba diving, golfing, tennis, pickle ball and all the resorts, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, Busch Gardens, need I go on. All this said, people spend their money wisely and basketball doesn’t top all this great activities where in a sunshine state with warm weather nearly year round. I always found it funny that MLB spring practice was always a big draw. Football with professional teams doting the state and college teams being top notch, basketball has always come in behind Hockey, has blown my mind. My savior has always been cable tv and streaming live sporting events. HULU gives me all games for football, basketball and baseball that Florida plays as I live in the suburbs of Nashville. My problem up here is so many Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn and even Miss State, Ole Miss and LSU fans are in abundance. I am either joined in good fan sparring or people hating on you, LOL It’s all good as Nashville has stepped up and become a center for a lot of SEC events. as for Florida, you have to find bars where Gator fans go or feel that there is a bar with enough tvs and channels where they will have the games you want to see. Hopefully they have great spirits and great food, which helps. south Florida with all the snow birds have their allegiances and most have aged where basketball isn’t the most important thing. If Syracuse Or Ohio State is playing the Gators, they usually have more fans than we do, that is sad! I take it AKA that you live in South Florida, North Florida more people get in to College basketball. I lived in Boca Raton for seven years and it was hard to get all Florida games in the nineties, sadly I felt the same thing you encountered.
We took a guest artist to dinner at a nice local joint that has a dining rm and a bar area. I poked my head in the bar area during the early Kst/MIst and UConn/Ark games . . . . hockey on every TV. I forgot to snap a photo () but feel your pain. Not that there's anything wrong with hockey, but this area is not real big on the DI major college sports. There actually was a crowd to watch our women's team in the DII FF at the place we visited last night. The interest tends to be 1) UMD hockey 2) UMD hockey 3) NHL hockey 4) Vikings/Packers 5) UMD football 6) other UMD sports
