Because we backed off and let him make a few. Once he got in that zone he felt like he couldn't miss.
I predict a tough struggle in Athens. Not real confident about this road contest. Having said that, getting to 8 - 4 would be special. Can't wait for the tip!
I would put it on the players over the coach. That said, I think they just missed shots and LSU got hot. I wouldn’t read too much into it.
I agree with most of what you said. I wouldn’t go this far, though. The other team is trying to win, too, and we should credit LSU for not giving up. They showed a lot of grit in the loss.
Of our 17 wins this season: 7 were 20+ point wins 10 were 15+ point wins 12 were 10+ point wins It is not a common theme this season for UF to give up leads and lose. It’s happened a few times this season, and it happens to many good teams.
Agree completely. Its also not the worst thing when a good team blows a lead but keeps it together enough to still get the W. Good experience for the tournament where there is rarely an easy win.....
Right- i'm worried too. Not only does UGA hate us, but they didn't play this week. So they get the home game coming off a bye week coming off a tough road loss. Just like us vs. Auburn. it will be a tough game...
After last night with us barely beating LSU and Vandy beating Texas A&M, the rest of the schedule is much scarier. The game at Vandy is no guarantee and we could lose 5 of the last 7. But we could win 5 of the last 7. Hold on tight.
Few observations, probably largely incorrect! - On switching defense - it is hard for a 2 big lineup to play zone, especially when a big on the other team drains 3s and your bigs are not so mobile on D (great shot blockers though). Think this needs testing by TG but I see our limitations. - On dealing with zone D - only Clayton and Pullin can break down a zone effectively. No bigs can hit 3s and Kugel is not on from outside. Think focusing on big to big passing, hitting the cutter, and kick outs is our path this year. That takes experience and our bigs are young. Side note - Condon’s upside if he develops an outside shot is the NBA. Love that kid’s heart. - Love the unselfishness of the team. BUT, it seems that only Clayton, Pullin and Condon are clutch time players. That reverse layup airball by kugel at the end was pathetic. You gotta force zone teams to make choices and burn them and most teams seem to know that we have some guys who do not want to take “the shot.” That helps the d tremendously. My biggest concern with this team from the first game is being dogs on defense. That does not mean just breaking down when your guy has the ball, it means being in their shirt for 40 minutes. Watch our off ball guys on D and they often are a little straight legged when the ball is on the other side. This creates windows that lead to open shots, and when those shots go down, the good players in this league see the hoop as very big. Offense comes and goes, and we are good offensively, but defense protects a 20 point lead. This team will go as far as their defensive heart and the guts to intelligently create and take “the shot” takes them on offense. To be clear, I really like the players, team, and style of ball we play! I hope we maximize our potential b/c we have the talent to enjoy some March madness!
I am all for our bigs shooting the ball, but Handles missed three pointer and Tyrese missing two long mid range shoots cost us each miss as they sensed we were letting up and going for long range shots. This gave them the momentum to rally and knew their zone had us unprepared. I would feel better if Condon would take more threes, he is open at the top of the key so many times but he is he always trying to pass it around. If he could hit two in a row, defense would have to change. He has the best stroke of all the bigs.
We didn't have a great day at the free throw line, but it was encouraging to see Haugh go 2 for 2 there, both of them nothing but net.
