Very thoughtful and informative post as always!

With respect to your final paragraph, I’m happy to discuss further but few quick lay opinions. I hope others will weigh in.

First, if you have any family history of schizophrenia or a couple other diagnoses, they recommend avoiding all psychedelics. Please check that out.

You should have a plan IMO, including a little research on dosage, deciding if you want to have any alcohol or something else with it, etc. I personally found out that I only enjoy psychedelics with alcohol because it mitigates anxiety.

Think about whether you might want a close friend around. Probably a good idea first time, especially if they have some experience.

Personally, I had more profound spiritual experiences with ecstasy than I did with mushrooms or acid. (Sam Harris considers MDMA a psychedelic, but I am not sure if it is technically). I don’t think ecstasy is legal or regulated for safety anywhere, so that’s off the table for me for now. But I really think people should do that once if they can do it legally and safely.

I had no particular passage in mind. I was just curious how you thought through the consequences of moral failure.

To summarize, though, you think some kind of judgment awaits the goats (the disobedient) and that judgement is the pain of acknowledging what they have done. And this is some kind of temporal consequence that will eventually give way to eternal life like the Roman Catholic belief in purgatory.

So, other than the pain of acknowledging what wrong you have done, do you believe that is it as far as punishment for disobedience? And what of the disobedience of sheep? Surely even the sheep have moments where they disobey Jesus. Is there no judgment for their disobedience?

As I posted earlier, I have no idea what stages or procedures the soul or consciousness experiences when the body dies. TBD. However I do intuit and trust the truth of the Ecclesiastes verse, 'the spirit returns to the One who gave it - God - Source, however someone might choose to identify such. Through the endless karmic action of reaping what is sown, the Unseen works ceaselessly to maintain a workable balanced existence for the earth and all her inhabitants.. As it is the international ship has been breached and is in grave danger of sinking unless its passengers learn the value of cooperation and tolerance, and how to deal kindly, honestly and honorably with others.

The lack of progress is discouraging and this discussion is derailing the topic of this thread.

The Rider on the White Horse comes to … chit-chat with his enemies ?

You’ve somehow managed to domesticate the Alpha and Omega. You were put off the only Jesus of whom we have a reliable record and turned him into a Jesus of your own sensibilities, a useful Jesus, a Divine Subject.

No offense meant at all, but that sounds to me like you didn’t take enough lysergic or psilocybin. Ecstasy is the training wheels of psychedelics. Absolute child’s play comparatively to true psychedelics, IMO. It's called ecstasy for a reason. But you’re not gonna find god on ecstasy.

Pound for pound lysergic is the greatest drug on earth, IMO. But if you truly, really want to go down the deepest rabbits hole it’s 5-MEO-DMT. They call it the “god molecule.” I’ve only taken it twice but both experiences were full blown out of body & hanging on for dear life voyages. More exhilarating than “fun” but holy cow if you want to be certain there is “more” there is nothing more convincing.

I contend that to this day, the Bible needs those supernatural stories to hold it together.

Without it, well there’s no supernatural.

Couldn’t disagree more. Jesus fixed the shortcomings of the Old Testament. Promoting “turn the other cheek” in place of “eye for an eye” is the legacy of Jesus, IMO. The supernatural shit is only there to get people to buy in and is completely superfluous.

“Intelligence” simply means the ability to acquire knowledge and skills, which we do through our sense perception and physical body.

I would say though that if humans, as a semi-autonomous manifestation of the universe, has the ability to acquire knowledge, than that which we label as “intelligence” is part of the fabric of said universe, given the right conditions for it to be expressed. (Goldilocks zone)

Where it all comes from, and why, I don’t know.

What I find bemusing: “There must be some kind of Higher Power. But miracles ? Don’t make me laugh.”

Which is what I essentially said. Without it, there isn’t the buy in, or glue.

The stuff you mentioned is more akin to self-help.

Take out the supernatural, and the promise of eternal life and fear of eternal hell, and you’re left with a book that never turns into the major religion it does.

This is a highly offensive statement. The sort of declaration that fosters violent antisemitic acts from deranged individuals.

My first inclination was to delete it, but decided to let it stand as is for what it is.

Your first inclination was power trip. But you managed to refrain. Read such as John 1:11 and Luke 23:18 in this regard. Unless of course you’ve scissored those out as well.

Of course these were general statements. Of course some Jews embraced their Messiah. But the Bible does not depict the Biblical nation of Israel in a favorable right. And that’s putting it mildly.

Scorn and light regard for the implication that we must be careful with scripture for fear of offending identitarians in our time.

Ok I see what you’re saying. It’s pretty ironic because so many Bible beaters are only focused on the supernatural aspects of the Bible, primarily the promise of everlasting life and fear of eternal damnation. Which misses the point entirely.

The Bible actually doesn’t have much to say about the afterlife. There are Bible beaters and apparently way too many people who read the Bible from a helicopter.

I read a book about DMT years ago. Honestly not sure I am up for a “hanging on for dear life” adventure at this point! Maybe I would be under the right circumstances.

I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re very comfortable leaving any semblance of reality. It only lasts a few minutes otherwise I never would have done it again.
