Interesting thread, my sister is a huge geneology nut. I have my own opinions based on the science I have absorbed. A few comments: Your comment: I wonder if White people (or other races/ethnicities for that matter) who harbor animosity against other races/ethnicities/groups or don't think they should be mixed might soften their views if they found out that they themselves are "mixed." If you believe in science and genetic research and read about this topic you will quickly come to understand: 1) NO SUCH THING as "purity" of race - a total fiction. Geneticist's tell us current homo sapien sapiens are a complex mixing of EVOLUTIONARY SPECIES. You, I and everyone else are made of MIXED genes. Including 2 - 5% Neanderthal. White racists better think again, all "White Skinned" people have a % of "Black" genes. Then consider the three hundred of thousand years when people were moving and mixing. (Homo Sapiens Sapiens were recently defined as stretching back to 300,000 years ago). So genetically there is NO SUCH THING as a pure "White" person. or a pure ANYTHING person. One may also want to consider the subject of skin color and melenin. Now are there higher %'s of people that live under certain cultural umbrellas? Oh Yes! Eveywhere. I always get a kick out of the "White Jesus" paintings or statuary in many churches. Yeah, a Jew from Palestine in the year 33 BC was lilly white with blue eyes............. LMAO, I guess god could have made him that way but then, nary a mention of those baby blues in the King James.
Yes, I recall you also made hay out of the American Revolution being a big mistake too and admitting your preference for monarchy
Sounds like something I’d say. My gggg-grandfather was content with his lot, as a British citizen, and he menaced so-called ‘Patriots’ who murdered his brother.
Hey - While I am not a supporter of the confederacey all my people were fighting for the cause back in the day. Yes the South was defeated but they put up one hell of a fight. While I do not support the cause fought for by Southeners, they fought bravely, and gave more than they got on the field of battle most of the time. Cowards - No Sir!
Hi wg - Anybody that fought against the Nazi's were my hero's, even those damn Bolshivicks. (And I don't care for Stalinists much) I have a special appreciation for Americans of color that served: Black, Native American and of course Japanese Americans that bled and died on the field of battle. I say SPECIAL because those same folks came back to a country full of a bunch of assholes that instead of honoring their sacrifice, decided to flip the racism light back on after the war was won. Some GI's were lynched once they got off the train from coming home from the front. A terrible black eye on our country and charachter.
The Confederacy was the dry run of modern Republican strategy. Scare marginalized poor Americans to blindly fight to protect the rights of rich people to do bad things. 140 years later it’s the same story.
I shared a podcast called Bear Brook on the podcast thread. These DNA companies have helped solve cold cases dating back decades and some very famous ones.
My dear friend from growing up found out last year that his dad is not his dad. He found a half sibling on the site and asked his mom about it and she broke down and admitted that he was the product of a drunken one night stand while his “dad” was out of town in the early 80s. So messed up. He took it extremely well.
The affidavit said DNA was recovered from trash from his parents house and that it was his dad's DNA. News reports have said the investigation was also assisted before that by 23 & me or a similar DNA website but that has not yet been corroborated by the authorities.
W Wow that’s quite the surprise. I know at least 3 people who found out about siblings from parental affairs. Tough way to find that out. Personally I won’t do it not that I expect to find out about a child from a decades ago tryst during one of the many springs breaks in Daytona of the late 80’s and early 90’s.
No. He might at some point contact his biological father but he said he will never tell his dad about it because it would only hurt him.
