Miami (-3.5) vs. Florida Aug. 31, 3:30 p.m. ET, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville The Hurricanes opened as 3.5-point favorites over the Gators. The Gators have never been that large of a home underdog in the Swamp in a season opener in the FBS era (1978), according to ESPN Stats & Information. Miami leads the all time head to head series with 29 wins to Florida's 27. The Gators are 2-5 against the Hurricanes since the turn of the century.
Billy has a good record as a home dog, but it's interesting this line went from +2 to +3.5 so fast. Hope we can stop a talented running QB like Cam Ward in short yardage situations. We'll see something similar playing both UCF and Tennessee.
Thought the home team usually gets a TD in their favor. If so, would that mean they are currently giving scUM 10.5? Hoping their new QB isn't ready for this game.
That record against the himmicanes and our recent losing seasons is why the line is where it is. It's probably about where Vegas would put the line logically. On paper and throwing out our recent history, we should be about a TD favorite as they have as many question marks on their team as we do (maybe more). I would take Mertz as a known commodity over a splash transfer like Cam ward but that's just me.
We're in dire need of a confidence building win streak. 41-17 in the first game would be a fine start.
I would not be surprised. Also this far out, the line, if it’s even real, is more like a futures bet. The line that we see a week before the game is often rather different than these future casts.
That score would actually require Napier to pass more than run. Pretty sure that's not part of his DNA.
Not good but I'm going thru the numbers now. Billy's 9-4 at home over 2 years but clearly didn't cover the spread against teams like Kentucky, USF, LSU, Charlotte, Arkansas.
