Which is why you asked the question.. to nitpick a side. Congrats. And the left calls the SC justices partisan.. defund the police was truly one side… same thing… which is my point. People have lost faith in the parts of government that are supposed to be non partisan and truly for the people.
OK, you think the FBI and DOJ are partisan left. Some think the the police are partisan right and racist. Does that mean they'll all correct, or does it mean their point of view is stilted to want everything their way?
I’m not trying to be argumentative.. but how? Who should we vote for? Who is gonna run that won’t fall into this pit of slime and putrid morass? 3rd party doesn’t get enough money to move the needle.. left and right make sure of that. Most cannot name who all the other options were .
The "left" might be the ones saying it, but the "right" believes it just as much as we do. Y'all celebrated McConnell denying Obama the SCOTUS seat and a bunch of other judgeships and then many of y'all voted for Trump because of "judges." You don't do that because you think you're getting objective, unbiased individuals. Y'all wanted people who think like you making the decisions. Do I blame you for that? Nope. I want the same thing. (But I'd certainly be happy with a system that gave neither of us what we wanted.)
I don’t think anything of the kind. Many Americans do though. Just read these boards and you see it every day. It’s not a matter if they are correct.. it is a matter of attitude and perception. People are tired. Seriously.. aren’t you? Aren’t you tired of the none stop vitriol that floods just this board? From both sides? Both sides have lost faith. Both sides have lost trust.
It starts with recruiting good people to run and the voters actually supporting them. How do we do that? Enough people need to get fed up with all this shit to actually care enough to do something about it. It doesn't feel like that's our reality at present. People are more focused on hating their political "enemies" than wanting to change how things are.
To be clear… I did none of the above. And I am conservative. But that’s not really the point. I’m not pointing fingers and saying your wrong or your right. I am saying the constant finger pointing from both sides is tiring to most of us. Our elective officials LIVE it as it keeps their base stirred up.. but it’s tiring to say the least.
This I agree with. I will say I think apathy has set in for many on both sides. Most people I know, left, right and center.. have a feeling of… my vote really doesn’t mean jack…. The nut jobs on both sides drive the party, drive the narrative, drive the perception… and the rest just feel helpless to some extent. I’d love to see an HONEST, moral, good leader, who puts America first, not personal gain, not party…
Do you want an applause.. at least you are consistent but so what. “My crap smells less crappy than your crap”.. and no one is really arguing with you… but beat your drum…
Apathy is the wrong word, I think. At least lately. Turnout has been pretty high since the '18 midterms. Turnout was higher in 2020 than in living memory. If anything, more people believe elections matter now. Both parties are pretty good at turning people out.
That is probably true… but at least those I know don’t feel like they really have any power to make a difference with their vote. We vote… but it’s not like we feel like it means much at all.
No, I want honesty when discussing the biggest LIAR this nation has ever seen. "My crap smells less crappy than your crap”. That would be true if I crapped once and you crapped 30,573 times.
Well, the way voting works in this country is that some people's votes really don't matter or count more than others, so they are correct.
The problem with this is that we are all of us flawed human beings who have imperfect pasts. Politics is all about finding those flaws and imperfections of your opponent and magnifying them to make your base hate them. Thus, odds are that about half of the voters in this country wouldn't see that person as what you're describing even if we had one. The fundamental issue is that to get through primaries these days, you have to be aligned with the most passionate part of the party's base. With Republicans, that'll make them completely unappealing to Democrats. With Democrats, that'll make them completely unappealing to Republicans. It basically doesn't matter how good of a person you are or altruistic your motives. And if we did find somebody who was genuinely decent and had a lot of crossover appeal, they would fail the purity tests and not make it through either party's primary. Is that a cynical POV? Yes. But it's also my honest POV. Hell, if the Republicans were to run a moderate like Charlie Baker in 2024, I think they'd absolutely crush the Democrats in the election. If the Democrats ran somebody like John Bel Edwards, I think they'd win by a solid margin too. But that's not happening because both guys are out of step with the base of the party who votes in the primaries. Am I saying that Baker or Bel Edwards are the sort of leader you described? No. My point is merely that if we did find that sort of leader, they'd either be unable to win a primary or repulse nearly half of the voters.
I actually think if people voted for parties rather than people you'd get way more boring people in high office, and that would eliminate personal attacks to some degree. I guess its not foolproof, you'd get plenty of mediocrities like Boris Johnson or Tony Blair, but no party is going to put out a raving lunatic if they get to pick from their bench of party flacks to be head of the party - it will always be someone who has cultivated relationships and played the game. People would get to have their fantasy of a Paul Ryan or Amy Klobuchar presidency, for better or worse.
No offense, but I guess I'm still not clear. Is the problem that the institutions are truly corrupt or at least partisan? Or is the problem that people think they are whether they are or not? As far as your claim that not a single politician cares about the common man, I think we'll just have to disagree.
People think they are… it erodes trust. And that’s cool with disagreeing. Everyone sees things from different perspectives.
