@92gator I deleted my last post. I did make a joke, and that’s what I assume you reacted to as funny. Apologies, brother.
I understand what you're saying here (bolded), though from my experience, most of the Cubans I know, get along with fine with other latin American folks of all stripes. But then, the Cubans I know are for the most part, participating Catholic church attendees, and in the Cat Church, you get folks all stripes-especially Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Filipinos, Dominicans, and Haitians (in fact, I've known a couple of Haitian priests)... fwiw.
No need to apologize. You're posts are real Murph. We've bucked heads, and will surely again, but I've always respected your takes bc of your sincerity, and bc your takes usually add depth to the convo (and you've given me plenty of cause to check myself, and re-evaluate my own takes...).
Haitians are typically extremely devout Catholics, so that makes sense. They also lean to the conservative side politically… at least the older generation does. I get along great with Cubans… always have… but they seem to be different from the other Caribbean islanders in perspective. Especially when it comes to views on the United States and (sorry have to be honest) race issues. I don’t think that’s a surprise to you, though. I also feel as though they weren’t at the same parties and social gatherings as us growing up. Maybe it was just in my own mind.
How many haters does it take to light one flag on fire? These people were pathetic. They’re not even good protesters.
The maga/trump references are relevant as one of their taglines that gets tossed out with great regularity is unless you are with them, that you somehow hate America and want to destroy it; which is of course absurd.
Not sure where he was born, but he reportedly lives in Malaysia and has developed a following on the American right.
I don’t even give people like that a second thought. They are irrelevant along with a lot of other groups.
No one hates America more than the modern nativist GQPer. If you hate the idea of a multicultural America so much, move to Russia.
I think America is a great country. For example, I'm in awe of our Founders in many respects (if not others). That said, I don't think Americans are known for our humility. Part of it IMO is that many Americans believe God (specifically, the Christian God) had a unique and active role in the formation of our country similar to the pact God had with Israelites. So criticizing any part of our founding is nearly sacrilegious to some. Our Founders did amazing things, but they didn't invent the idea of representative government, for example. America deserves credit for lots of other things, too, but not the sole credit. Where would we have been without France's help in our early history? I always grew up hearing about how we swaggered into WWII and cleaned house, but I don't recall until I was an adult learning about the number of Soviets who gave their lives. I love America, but we're a bit like the family with new money who flaunts their wealth, looks down on others, and feels entitled to be at the top. I think Washington, Lincoln, and others had a very humble understanding that if history is any judge, we're going to have to sacrifice and work together to sustain what we have accomplished as a people.
Yes, McCarthyism is alive and well. No, not that late douchebag Joe McCarthy with his Commie under every bush act. I'm talking about that gutless, Trump-licking douchebag Kevin McCarthy, who exemplifies today's GOP (Goose-steps on Parade). I think I'll write a song. "Douchebag Days Are Here Again."
Not only that. What does MAGA stand for? Make America Great AGAIN. Their whole premise is that America isn't currently great. They're literally telling you that. MAGA is a bunch of America haters.
Was a pretty short video of about a person we never heard of and 4-5 people joining in her chants in which the speaker simply points out America has flaws in a highly controversial way. I am not a fan of trying to take attention away from the July 4th meaning but I wont lose sleep over someone protesting in America where she didnt select a powerless subset of America to demonize.
Yes it is, but it's mostly employed by the Left now, against those who daren't carry Lefist water. Bullies are bullies....doesn't matter what flag they bully under.
