Well, Richard was a mid-major, and he turned out fine. And Appleby would be considered a low-major at Cleveland State, but he ended up fire at Wake. Clayton is basically a mid coming from Iona. Same for Handlogten.

I guess it all depends on the player and circumstances. Richard was way overlooked because he was an overweight football player before he grew in high school and switched schools. Clayton was a football player, too, who didn't do the travel circuit. Handlogten wasn't recruited heavily because he was too skinny and weak, but gained 20 pounds as a freshman.

Too bad he and Canyon couldn't have been here together.

rserina, agree on all of the above. I guess I don’t really view Iona as a mid-major. My only concern at this point is maybe reaching for a PG, that’s all.

if TG & staff feel good about a player, great, go and sign him up.

I’ve long been a fan of the underdog, overlooked, under-recruited player. Andrew Moten will always be one of my favorite Gator Basketball players for this reason.

If TG can find a player he feels good about & fits the current roster, that would be great.

I like our roster ( on paper) and I think it sets us up for the upcoming season and next, with a little luck in the development department.

    Again, fingers crossed.

I don't think the next John Stockton is in the portal.

If this were the "good old days", you roll the dice and take your chances. You don't know what you have until you have it. Unfortunately, we have "freed" everyone and so the cost goes up dramatically. The idea that you can figure out what is a great move versus the cost (to the overall team dynamic) of acquiring a shiny player is mainly fools gold. Not that there aren't good opportunities, just that not everything that glitters is gold.

    Caveat emptor.

Is Andrew Taylor from Marshall an option?

According to Eric Fawcett, the Gators have reached out to him.

I'd be beyond shocked if this happened. I'd also be stoked as hell.

agreed - he's also a great ballhandler, solid shooter and has pretty good court vision. Decent athlete who uses change of speed/direction really well to get by guys - I wouldn't call him slow, exactly, but he's gonna have to work pretty hard to beat SEC defenders off the dribble consistently (edit: I just read Eric's article about UF reaching out to Taylor and he already beat me to this observation).

on the downside his A/TO ratio has barely been above 1.5 the last two years and he takes a lot of questionable shots.

I'd love to get him here and maybe the Handlogten connection helps, but this guy is gonna be a pretty hot property with lots of interest so probably a very long shot for us like exiled mentioned above.

Yeah, I agree with all of the above, and would still take him in a heartbeat. He looks like he has an SEC-ready body and good height for a guard. Plus, he'll be 24 and with tons of experience. Plus, he's improved each season.

With Taylor and Thomas going elsewhere, are there other PGs we're looking at?

There are probably at least 250 guards and 125 small forwards still in the portal. We almost certainly will be signing a few of them although I don’t know who we are going after.

Would you expect starter level players or more likely depth pieces?

    I'd have to assume depth.
