Alternating possession arrow sucks and call a foul in an obvious fouling situation

I hate how college rewards poor basketball time after time with the arrow. Jump it up like real men. And cmon refs it’s obvious we are trying to foul. Call the damn foul. Kinda like when turning two if you are around the base you get credit.

True, but we didn’t deserve to win that game with the lack of effort on defense, and only 2 guys showing up on offense for most of the game.

Going to choose to believe we needed this loss to get better.

We will see if the team learns from this loss and improves going forward. Ball movement was lacking for most of the game, poor shot selection and not finishing at the rim, not communicating on defense, etc are things that are an areas of focus in practice. Sometimes it takes a loss to get through to players. They played with focus on both ends to start the second half but didn’t sustain it. Again, that showed lack of poise and focus. But it also showed their potential when they play like they are being coached to play also. While no loss is a good loss, this will be a valuable lesson.

You must not watch much baseball, ‘cause you don’t get credit for being around the base anymore. They stopped that a while back when they stopped letting the runner take out the guy making the throw.

I'm an old-timer and I've never liked the alternating possession rule. And I've never heard what I would consider a good argument for it.
Another rule I'd like to hear about is, why can guys grab the ball on the floor and slide on their asses for seven feet and never get called for a travel? It used to be an automatic call (I only hate it when it's the other guys getting away with it, though, not our guys).

Preach brother. Dumb rule. We played outstanding defense forcing the scrum and deserved a jump ball. They were rewarded for a bad play.

Agree on all counts... Except replay has ended the 2nd base neighborhood rule.

It was mainly about the possibility of a ref throwing the ball up badly and also potentially telegraphing it somehow. The idea was that it could be a possible avenue for corruption.

I think it all evens out in the end, just not necessarily in a particular game. As an aside, I did not remember that the NFL has changed the rules for overtime as it relates to the playoffs. Both teams get one possession regardless, but not during the regular season. I can see where they change the rule in the tourny to have jump ball every time. Too much riding on a single loss.

When I saw the tie up and the arrow on their side I threw my window through the TV.

because the rule allows the player to slide when the go to the floor to get the ball...it becomes traveling when they then try to roll over or go to stand up. So they must pass the ball from their current position for it not the be called traveling.

How 'bout this, then: let the two guys fight it out and whoever comes away with it, comes
I understand. But in my day, ye had ter stay in one place with the ball if'n ye warn't a-dribblin.' AND WE LIKED IT!
    Now git off my lawn.

that's cute. now you're probably going to tell me something crazy like that players would get called for traveling if they took more than 2 steps

College refs are pretty good about calling too many steps. The NBA, not so much. Check out our own Corey Brewer as a pro:

I get it but I really miss the excitement of the jump, just like a face off in hockey. Alternating possession is fine for young kids that can hardly handle the ball. College, no.

I don’t mind the alternating possession rule. When a guard ties up a big man, a jump ball offers no reward for the effort.

There is a reward because play stops and the outcome of a jump is not a sure thing - probably less than a free throw.

Plus, getting a mismatch is a huge part of game and teams work every second to get them.

PS: Don't let short guards switch on to big guys.

My granddad used to complain when they removed the bottom of the peach basket.
