And do they know that "traditional gender roles" for men is dying in some pointless war, not gaming all day

I prefer bunny slippers so put me in the 52% who disagrees with barefoot and in the kitchen.

I'd rather have them naked and in the bedroom.

Anecdotally almost every woman I have met wish they did not have to work. Period. I know some badass lawyers that would love for their husbands to make enough to so they could be a 'kept woman'.

My wife has said for years she wish she didn't work. Wonderful woman. God put us this way. She is so strong willed (which is a total turn on for me) that she'd kill me.

I would think most people would enjoy being independently wealthy and/or not having to work a demanding job.

My wife is a very hard worker. Has worked 50 - 60 hours most weeks since she graduated college. Sure, if she could be independently wealthy and not have to work, she'd probably spend all that time traveling. But even then, she'd get bored and probably work long hours at some charity. But we're not independently wealthy. But as we close in on retirement, her and my hard work will likely pay off with the ability to travel once the youngest is out of school.

Agreed. Individual choice. I enjoy the challenge of work/career. Making myself better even as tech seems to get past me. It is a job just to keep up with the changing tech. It is fun!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think your enjoyment for work puts you in the minority. At the same time, I'm a little envious of your positive attitude. :)

"Work" is being productive for someone else, for most people. I'm sure some people would sit on their ass and do nothing (which can be ok for a few days, but gets boring too), but not having to work would mean you can be productive for yourself, whatever that is, whether its making art, learning, home improvement, child care, spending time with friends, etc. The mind wants to be occupied and challenged, I think (and a lot of jobs dont fulfill that at all). At least I can say that for myself.

I am happy for women and men to live how they think is best for them. At the same time, I think a significant part of the desire to return to "traditional" gender roles in relationships is based in no small part on the fact that around 70% of divorces are initiated by women, and that number rises to about 90% when the wife has a college degree.

There is probably some nostalgic element for a time when a single income household was viable, though I doubt "trads" would credit the height of American social democracy and union density for that being possible in the late 40s/50s/60s. If they want to take us back to the 19th century they should take a look at much of the industrial workforce, which was young women and well, children.

It’s interesting MAGA likes idea of a “traditional” wife—what tradition? from roughly 1945 to 1985ish?

For most of history, families were agrarian, and it was all hands-on-deck. “Putting food on the table” wasn’t just a figure of speech. Mothers did care for babies, but raising children would be performed by all, including by men, relatives and friends.

Even after the Industrial Revolution, many women worked in factories. Otherwise they would literally go hungry. And during WWII, women kept our industries running.

This is also not the case with our trends over the last 40 years of higher divorce rates and more children born out of wedlock.

I agree that toddlers/young children benefit from a stay-at-home parent or close relative for their early development. They have a better chance to receive higher quality attention and affection. But historically, there’s little evidence of a tradition where women stayed home and “didn’t work”—it’s more of a mid-20th-century anomaly.

If this is the best goal, does anyone raise their daughters to only plan to be stay-at-home wives?

and why does maga latch on to a wife that doesn’t work and “stays at home”

The ironic thing about trad wives is the tradition is a myth. The majority of families, even in the 1950s, had two working spouses. Especially for minority families. Yes, the number of homemakers was higher, but it was never the majority of families had just a working father and full-time, stay-at-home mother.

Another post proving you don’t really know the nature of people.

You think everyone wants to have to rely on being employable to live and enjoys drudgery? Ok, run with that!
