I tend to agree. It's like we are bad (25th in the country in turnovers per play). The only guy with a negative a:to ratio is Chinyelu, and that's mostly because he doesn't generate many assists. The problem is that we are inconsistent in that respect. All three of our guards are so aggressive that they can go through stretches where they put themselves in bad situations, and it can snowball when you are trying to press the pace and get into your early offense. Our transition defense has prevented us from getting burned on it easy scores, but it takes away possessions. If we take care the ball and rebound the offensive glass, we maximize possessions, and that's when our offense takes off. We aren't the best shooting team in the world (top 50 across the board, but outside the top 25 in effective fg%, 2pt%, 3pt%, shooting efficiency). Where we do our work is in sheer shot volume (fourth in fga/game), which combined with offensive rebounding (top 10 in number and percent) equates to a ton of scoring opportunities.
But we do make up for it with seasoned juniors and seniors who have a lot of ball under their belts..we aren’t a bunch of freshmen top 20 one and dones.Thats why we cleaned house in the SEC tourney. We are right where we want to be!
Yea, we are built for a run no doubt. Don’t think there’s a more complete team. Significant tournament experience is the one thing we lack. I don’t necessarily think that is a big issue, we did just win the toughest conference tourney. But there’s something to be said if we make a F4, different kind of pressures and media obligations.
The team is definitely legit, so any answer to this is picking nits... UF's offense is awesome in transition but more average in half court and NCAA tournament games are usually a little slower.
And they beat the tar (heel) out of their conference opponents. Duke is really good. What may be their Achelous heel is speed at the PG position. If the Duke bracket goes chalk they will have to contend with Bama and Sears. Advantage Bama.
Who does Katz work for? He sure spent à lot of time making excuses to why NC is in the tournament. Also explained in great détail why favored teams make it to the F4. But no insights to why UF gets beaten in the s16 round. Just that he thinks they don't make it pass that s16. What à turd.
My memory says teams with good guard play do well in the ncaas, so...... Btw, Andy Katz is a big 10 guy.
I don't know what role it will play, if any, but certainly something we will hear about this coaching staff and players. Especially one going in as a favorite. The team is going to get picked apart the next few days as they try to explain bracket selections. Think I heard that the last coach to win the tournament the same year winning their first tournament game was Kevin Ollie in '14. Before that was Steve Fisher as interim HC in '89 for Michigan.
