Ha . . . I was thinking about that. He sure does land consistently with his feet and hold the follow-through with his right wrist.
Good form on the 3s, but after watching some highlights what really stands out to me is how many ways he can finish at the hoop. He goes up strong when he has to and gets creative when he has to. Explosive first step too.
We’ve seen him play alot. In your estimation, what Gator does he remind you of? We haven’t had one of these in a long time.
thats tough… Maybe Prather? Casey was bigger, but same kind of explosiveness, athleticism, crazy jumping ability/rebounding, scoring. I was at a game versus North Texas, and Martin had a dunk that was Prather-esque.
yeah- I almost posted the same. But like you alluded to… Martin os better in all aspects of basketball.
He has now officially signed. As a 2 he averaged 1.6 assists. That number could increase with more ball handling, but with the increase in competition it is hard to say. Welcome to the team Alijah!! Go Gators!
He’s played some pretty stout competition. Of course he hasn’t been through the sec grind, but he’s played some very good teams and participated in a final four run. I don’t anticipate our schedule being that much of a shock to his system.
I think his career high even came in the final four where he scored like 26 points and basically almost single handedly kept FAU in the game against SDSU
If you look at that entire team, they were low in assists. I think it’s a function of his 4 out, high post motion offense. Not nearly as many ball screen or point guard initiated plays as most. Gives guards freedom to attack space off the bounce.
Maybe but such completely different body types. Prather 6-6ish with the classic, long limbed build of an athletic swingman and Martin so much more compact at 6-2.
I know it’s a stated plan, but I will end up quite surprised if Martin assumes any pg minutes. It’s just not his game. He isn’t a great passer; doesn’t have point guard level court vision or decision making. I love everything about this signing, and am thrilled he is a gator, but a pg he is not. I do think we will put him in ball screen action … and that will likely be the extent of his primary ball handling role.
