Love the toughness, shot making creativity, experience and defense he gives us. If Clayton comes back will be very interesting backcourt. I worry about turnovers and play making for others but with Clayton and Martin we have two guys who can get themselves shots for sure
I hope Denzel gets an opportunity to play extended minutes each game...he'll make mistakes early in the season but if Todd gives him a chance, he'll improve dramatically and be very solid at the end of the year. He was improving towards the end of this year with the little time he played.
This is shaping up to be potentially one of the best seasons we've ever had... (minus earlier Final Four appearances and two Natty's of course).
Interesting comments from Eric about Denzel. Think the feeling is that he's good off the bench, but not a starter.
I take it that he's a PG? I also see four years of stats, but maybe the '20 season did not count due to covid? At any rate, we needed a guard and it appears we got a good one. Now we need a good wing or a good PF.
He's a SG but realizes he needs to be a PG at the next level. CTG is giving him that opportunity due to his great defensive play.
You called it, Rick. We have 3 scholarships available, and at this point last year we hadn’t even started recruiting Pullin. Long way to go before the roster is finalized. I still don’t see Martin as a one. Clayton for his career has greater usage and assist rates, and a lower turnover rate. People obsess over his turnovers against the press, but I think Clayton is every bit as likely to play the one as Martin. Aberdeen and Kublickas have opportunities to move into that spot. And you could always find some insurance in the portal. Big picture, though: Martin can defend three positions, rebounds his position and exceptionally well, takes care of the ball, and can create for himself offensively. The first of those things will help us improve a major weakness a year ago (along with Chinyelu and Alexis). The latter three are exactly what that staff wants (rebounding rate, turnover rate, usage rate).
