But why would you just discount those years? They happened, we had those stretches of success… a&m hasn’t

This is amazing and awesome stuff. Thanks for posting '62. There is so much cool information in there, it just supports how great Urban was as a coach; it is obvious why he won. It is also obvious what is lacking now at UF.

It seems that Ali is married to an ex-Florida player? A punter perhaps?

And for all the jilted 14 year olds that had their hearts broken by Urban, he took the time to do these interviews--without pay I am sure-because he likes her, and her husband.

    But whine away.

Yet many piled on the fans that were critical of our 2nd half philosophy against Tennessee because we still won the game. Playing conservative coming out of halftime when the crowd was rocking and we were killing them was a red flag. It's possibly why even though he had a great record at Louisiana, he still had several one score wins. A win is a win and I'd take one score wins in all of our games but momentum is huge in college sports and the great teams utilize it or overcome it if needed. Coaching conservative does not work in college. Maybe in the pros but college not so much.

Well yea, exclude about 17 years of Gator excellence.. Very few programs look good when u exclude their 2 most successful coaches.

Right. Take out Kirby and Jawja is still going 40+ years strong without a championship.

Have they always dumped the kind of money into football as they have recently? They will find that coach even if they keep buying top tier talent.

SOS always had intention of putting up 50 points on the opponents.

If the job were to open up, I think Urban would strongly consider taking it. It might even come down to the willingness of the administration to hire him. I think the Florida job is one of maybe 3 schools he would come out of retirement for. That's just the feeling I get when listening to him talk. No rumors from boosters or anything.

I’m not discounting them at all. Quite the opposite, I mentioned them, but because they are the outliers not the norm. Our historical record and TAMU’s are similar, nearly identical. We have had more recent success for sure, but they had fantastic seasons when we were terrible too. Unfortunately for both programs the current records and state of the program is much more in line with historic performance than our great or even really good seasons. Recency bias prevents many from recognizing that, as if we started playing football in 1990.

Our winning percentage since 1990, which includes easily the 15 BEST IN OUR 100+ year history is .719. I think CBN is underperforming on Saturdays but unfortunately he’s much closer to what we have been in 90% of our overall history than not. Take it for what it’s worth, I want it to be way better too.

Agree. Take Coach K away from Duke, Billy D away from UF basketball? Dean Smith and Roy Williams away from UNC, Kirby away from UGA, etc…

Florida is 9th in the list for CF teams with the most wins in the last 50 years and that includes the last 13 years. They only listed 20 teams, so I didn't see TAMU. I think UF had 2 non-winning seasons from 1960 to 2012. They have 4 just in the last 10 years.
I hate making comparison because both teams are mediocre the last 10-13 years. But, I think UF has been a lot better than TAMU for much longer périod.

And he knew that, too...he did his homework! Even though it was a lifetime dream to coach at ND, I remember Bruce Earl (or somebody) telling him that he thought he could win more and quicker in Gainesville than in South Bend.

Today, I do NOT think that sentiment is true. I think the SEC is a disastrous conference for anyone to do a rebuild. It requires elite recruiting and continuity over years to have "real" success, which I'd define as competing for championships every year (only Bama and Georgia check that box).

I Disagree. We check that box also. We are a top program and with a good coach we are as dangerous as any other.

We just keep hiring poor coaches. Napier, zook, Muschamp and mullen would have failed or been mediocre at every other school also. It's not like they had success anywhere else. Good coaches win. Bad coaches don't.
