Zel was very good. But he was role player very good. He progressed but I believe that he has essentially hit his ceiling. Note that no one expects him to play in the NBA. We will miss him but don’t think it as big a blow as some seem to think..if Golden felt he was that important I don’t think he would have left. That being said, good luck to him. I hope he banks the $ and has good advice.
This sucks. Florida could have used a PG with SEC or high major experience. I heard Kentucky is now at 14 scholarships. ============================ Meanwhile, I think I count only 9-scholarship players signed with Florida unless I am missing someone. Guards: (4) 6'4 Xaivian Lee, Sr 6'3 Alexander Lloyd, Fr 6'1 Urban Klavzar, So (edit) 6'4 Isaiah Brown, So Forwards: (3) 6'9 Thomas Haugh, Jr 6'11 Alex Condon, Jr 6'6 CJ Ingram, Fr Centers: (2) 7'1 Micah Handlogten, ?rsJr 6'10 Rueben Chinyelu, Jr 7'9 Olivier Rioux, rsFr 6'11 Viktor Mikic, ?So ============================ I believe that 15 scholarships is the new limit. So, I wonder who else that Golden could sign at Florida. There is the possibility of AJ Brown, Henshall, and maybe Coward. Finally, would Florida actually pursue the Memphis PG, Haggerty, who is asking for 4 mil - ridiculous, I say.
Hopefully he walks out of the ODome with an L next season. He might also be able to take some good pictures of the banners while he's taking a breather on the bench.
If I’m a mid level trader at J P Morgan and Goldman offers me a 2 million raise and I take it, no one will talk about my disloyalty to J P Morgan. But none of us are fans of Wall Street trading houses….they don’t have fans, just money. Very regrettably that will likely happen (hopefully slowly, but looking doubtful) to college basketball. All the more reason to enjoy what we had this year and keep the memories while hoping for the best.
The part that gets me is that all during the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. The Announcers were all giving praise to Aberdeen for not transferring last year. Then not only does he make a $$ grab, but he goes to UK. NIL is killing what used to be Collegiate Sports.
Kentucky using that huge NIL budget. I’m sure he has to make a lot of appearances and they are putting his name on a lot of merchandise…wait…
I really don't think this is as much about UK trying to get better, but more them trying to hurt us. I've always been a "pull for the SEC" guy, but never again will I pull for UK in any sport.
yes back when they weren’t getting a red penny to play in college and had no guarantees (see: injuries) they’d be in the league next year
One of the all time great movies is “A Man For All Seasons” about the life of Thomas Moore. A famous quote from that movie is altered for Denzel Alberdeen: “Why Denzel, it profit a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world. . . but for Kentucky!”
And why wouldn’t you put yourself first with lif changing money. I’ll miss him . Thought he was a great player and great teammate
Jeff no one is a portal fan unless they come to their school. Florida gets Martin , Richard and Clayton and not a word
