As I recall, Dan Mullen did just that, got his ass fired for it - and is still collecting millions from UF. In hindsight, I would say that his never showing up on gameday after the Bama loss in '21, or never breaking a sweat in recruiting at any point during his time at UF, was in fact catastrophic. How exactly that pertains to BN (a very hard worker and a total non-asshole) is less clear to me. The program is in a state of flux. BN may well succeed with time or simply lose too many games in the near-term and eventually be fired. IMHO, he will not be fired for not even trying to do his job. He's just not that guy.
I agree, however you can only hope to know a persons work ethic regardless of how well you vet therm when you hire. No one would leave out non-performance as something that would trigger a buyout as it did with Mullen.
I think we have to remember this is Strickland's hire, and that it will be his undoing if BN doesn't work out. I think for that reason this season will not be about wins and losses, but about how competitive we are and can we win with better recruits coming in. If the president steps in and fires our AD then it could be about wins and losses in that case. I think our president is letting Scott have a pretty long leash, but who knows. If disaster happens and both get fired, then who knows how many recruits/current players will jump ship. It is what it is at this point. I hope we have a bowl season and have Lagway waiting to take over and bring us to that next level. For this season I have a question though. If we go 6-6 and sweep the Florida battle, then would you be ok with that? Just curious. Go Gators!!
Trying to understand how that happened. Project managers meet with personnel. Sales Managers meet with their reps. ADs do not follow and inspect their football programs to make sure what's expected is in progress?
When Trask has possibly the best offensive season in our history, it’s hard to fire his sorry ass the next year.
Actually, that would be the best possible 6-6, so yeah, I could live with that. Besting Miami, ucf, and fsu would be great.
As long as we win whatever crappy bowl we earn from that. Another no-show by the team like happened against Oregon St would leave the fans thinking we are still stuck in neutral 3 years in.
I agree that opt outs resulting in a miserable performance in a bowl game can be a huge negative for the team and program going forward. My hope is that our team’s attitude and morale is light years ahead of that of our last two bowl games. If so, our performance will almost certainly be much better.
Agree on performance and mindset. You can’t continue with the #9 offense and #11 Defense in the sec cellar and expect job security at UF. The air seems to be one of focus and improvement versus going on vaycay. Solid +++ there He definitely has the work ethic. Hopefully the staff changes have been major upgrades as well as having more seasoned players. The leader gets the blame or credit, but the folks below them are just as important. I bought last years hype on a better D and O Line, so never again. Road graders and tacklers for 24’!
Short answer is yes. Long answer is a yes but I get to pick the 6 wins. FSU Miami UCF UGA Texas LSU We could lose the rest and I would be good. And yes I realize that means losing to Samford.
Your picks would mean a pretty strong finish for sure, but I experience a miserable few weeks the one year out of 10-15 or so we lose to UcheaT. I can shut them up pretty fast now though. LOL!
