We outplayed them at their own games. Averaged over 100 per game against Bama, the leading scoring offense, and beat them by 22 in one of them. Houston, the leading scoring defense, we played their game, just did it better. Incredible team that did what it took, and just did it better. Has this been done before?
It was pretty amazing how many times we essentially allowed the other team to do what they wanted to do, then just simply did what they do, better. Added in some non traditional strategies to close out those games. You want to run, we can run. You want to play rugby, we can bang. Wanna drop 100 pts? We’ll race you there. Whatever you want to do, we’ll play that game for about 35 minutes, then we’ll show you how we finish and leave you in tears. Someone referred to it as the basketball rope a dope. I like that reference. Let them think they’re doing what they want, play their game, keep it close, then when the time comes, kick it in to high gear, shut them down and take over. Game is over before they know what hit them.
This literally may be the best post I've ever read in this forum. The "Rope a Dope" reference is exactly right. Did you hear it referred to it that way, or did you think it? Either way, kudos to who did.
