Old guy who hasn't worked for the ACLU for 20+ years yells at clouds. As I just said, they literally represented the NRA two weeks ago in the Supreme Court. There is no factual basis to your claim.

P.S. Intra-organizational debates are nothing new (the Wikipedia page literally has a number of them over the course of the ACLU's history), and the ACLU being a racial justice organization is nothing new. That has been true since the beginning.

I cant remember a time where the ACLU wasn't a dirty word to conservatives and centrist lib types. Maybe their backdoor play to gut the NLRA is an attempt to win those guys over. :)

This is accurate and unfortunate. Progressive employers still act like employers.

If folks want to see the ACLU actually betraying its values, they need only look at its answer here. Its attorney preserved an argument that Biden illegally fired the Trump-appointed GC (when he hired a more pro-labor GC for the NLRB) and therefore everything the current GC is doing is illegal. The ACLU began as a pro-labor organization. Making that argument, which is very harmful to the labor movement, would be the ultimate betrayal of the organization's values.

First, you and others like WPB who are so driven by diversity and identity politics have no hesitation to disparage old people and boomers. It really falls into question your true commitment to these values.

Second, representing NRA has nothing to do with identity politics. The point is identity politics and diversity have superceded their primary goals of freedom of speech and religion.

You also bring up a real point. Post George Floyd many organizations, who support left wing causes or have a heavily left wing employee or member base, have been torn apart by identity politics. These members demand they take stands and become active on DEI issues, sometimes at the expense of their organization’s core mission. Perhaps you think that is awesome, but it also dilutes there credibility and influence. There are probably many people who support free speech but are not consumed with identity politics.

I "disparage old people and boomers" when they engage in reactionary behavior to societal changes that are normal or complain about the generations who are following them.
You're doing mental gymnastics. First, what you call "identity politics" are and have always been a primary goal of the ACLU. It is a racial justice organization and has been for over 100 years. It is also a free speech organization. It continues to defend the speech of people it disagrees with from government regulation, as the NRA and numerous other recent cases show. It also continues to fight for racial justice. It has other priorities too (democratic rights, women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, criminal justice reform, etc.).
"DEI issues" encompass both free speech and racial justice, so it is unsurprising the ACLU is heavily involved. I think it is indeed awesome that the ACLU fights for racial justice and free speech. If folks who "support free speech" don't like the ACLU because they're not similarly motivated to fight for racial equality, so be it. I will continue to support the ACLU because it fights for justice for all people.
