BRANDON — On Wednesday afternoon, before Interstate 75 typically begins to swell with rush-hour traffic, a Clearwater man drove a pickup south along a stretch of the highway in Brandon. Riding with the man, troopers say, was a 34-year-old woman, their 12-year-old son and the boy’s 14-year-old cousin, who was visiting from out of state. When the man tried to change lanes just north of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway interchange, his truck collided with another pickup and flipped over, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash killed all four people in the first pickup. None of them were wearing seat belts and all four were ejected from the truck, troopers said. I feel sorry for the out of state parents of the cousin who was visiting the irresponsible couple. Wasn’t their own negligence that cost their son his life.
