Trump's decision to give Elon whatever clearance he needs reminds me of the Donald's decision during his first term overriding the recommendation of career professionals and giving his son-in-law Jared Kushner a top secret clearance.

Speaking only for myself periodic outside reviews of government agencies are a good idea and to be meaningful they should be conducted by forensic auditors and other experts who have an in depth understanding the missions of the agencies that they are reviewing. A "review" over a couple of days by a small number of young software engineers does not come close to meeting the criteria for a satisfactory review. As I pointed out in several other posts, Clinton's Reinventing Government Initiative took place over five months and its finding and recommendations were submitted to Congress for review. If Trump was really serious about improving the efficiency of government he would have done something similar.

top secret still has serious limitations. they decided not to try for anything mroe lest his drug use and unsavory connections be brought into the discussion and he could lose what he has..

of course that was before he bought the WH. but TS still doesn't get one into the systems that he, and many others without even TS, are not only looking into but downloading and possessing.

Hunter gets prosecuted for lying on a gun form while addicted to drugs and Elon gets the tax and health records of the USA while admitting being addicted to drugs..do you see a problem here?

Elon Musk will not receive highest-level government security clearance – reports | Elon Musk | The Guardian

According to the Journal, Musk’s lawyers outlined scenarios in which he might inadvertently disclose secrets to foreign officials with whom he regularly speaks, including the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, with whom he is reported to have been in regular contact since 2022. Musk’s use of another semi-legal drug, ketamine, in pursuit of what friends call “pure creativity”, along with reports of LSD, ecstasy and magic mushrooms, could also be an issue.

Musk lawyers told the Journal there had been “false facts” in a WSJ report about Musk’s drug patterns and he was “regularly and randomly drug tested at SpaceX and has never failed a test”. SpaceX lawyers and executives reportedly concluded that if the company sought a higher level of clearance than Musk currently holds, he risked being turned down and potentially stripped of the clearances he currently holds.
    ..........................................
More than 400 SpaceX employees have permissions to access “sensitive compartmented information”, but not the company CEO, according to the outlet. A smaller number of employees have access to secrets the government deems even more sensitive called special access programs, including SpaceX’s spy satellite program, called Starshield.

As it stands, Musk is not entitled to enter SpaceX facilities where such classified work is done and discussed, and is denied access to classified elements of payloads. The company recently signed a $1.8bn classified contract with the national reconnaissance office, the agency that operates spy satellites, among other, pre-existing government contracts.

You are answering a question not asked.

So I will ask again: Do you think that any Executive Agency needs an outside review of their current size versus their given responsibilities?

So if Trump had chosen Pompeo, HR McMaster, or Mike Rogers to do the audit of an agency within the IC, would you be OK with them doing it?

I know that multiple career civil servants, heads of their agencies, resigned their leadership positions because access was being granted to people without the proper credentials just because Elon said to do it.

do you understand that is what is happening? Wired has been the best reporting on it if you want the names and details of the muskettes and where they have been planting backdoors and downloading and copying reems of data with no supervision.

if you don't want to know, carry on

Wired lol. They may be the only people on planet Earth that hate Musk more than you. Kara Swisher is obsessed with Musk. If she wasn’t a lesbian I’d guess she secretly wanted to birth his 14th kid.

Wired isn't Kara Swisher's media company. That is recode.

Why those 3? McMaster might be ok. Rogers is a MAGA nutter, so no. Would you be ok with AOC conducting an audit of HHS?

SOP. no comment on the substance

are you saying this is incorrect or this is acceptable?

no way in hell this guy had security clearance but he was given access to the treasury payment systems

are you paying attention or choosing to remain willfully ignorant?

A 25-Year-Old With Elon Musk Ties Has Direct Access to the Federal Payment System | WIRED

A 25-year-old engineer named Marko Elez, who previously worked for two Elon Musk companies, has direct access to Treasury Department systems responsible for nearly all payments made by the US government, three sources tell WIRED. Two of those sources say that Elez’s privileges include the ability not just to read but to write code on two of the most sensitive systems in the US government: the Payment Automation Manager and Secure Payment System at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS). Housed on a secure mainframe, these systems control, on a granular level, government payments that in their totality amount to more than a fifth of the US economy.
    ............................
"Technically I don't see why this couldn't happen," a federal IT worker tells WIRED in a phone call late on Monday night, referring to the possibility of a DOGE employee being granted elevated access to a government server. "If you would have asked me a week ago, I'd have told you that this kind of thing would never in a million years happen. But now, who the fuck knows."

A source says they are concerned that data could be passed from secure systems to DOGE operatives within the General Services Administration. WIRED reporting has shown that Elon Musk’s associates—including Nicole Hollander, who slept in Twitter’s offices as Musk acquired the company, and Thomas Shedd, a former Tesla engineer who now runs a GSA agency, along with a host of extremely young and inexperienced engineers—have infiltrated the GSA and have attempted to use White House security credentials to gain access to GSA tech, something experts have said is highly unusual and poses a huge security risk.

Musk Ally "Mistakenly" Given Power To Alter US Treasury's Payment System

The employee, Marko Elez -- who had no federal government status -- resigned Friday after being linked to a racist social media account, only for Musk to announce that he was being reinstated.

An Elon Musk aide was mistakenly given clearance to make changes to the US Treasury Department's highly sensitive payments system containing millions of Americans' personal information, a department official said Tuesday.

The admission came in a sworn statement to a federal judge amid heated criticism that the 25-year-old employee of billionaire Musk had editing rights to a system that handles trillions of dollars in government payments.

As someone once said, elections have consequences so the picks would have to be Republicans. So you have to pick from realistic choices that Trump would make.

FYI, I was referring to former head of the NSA Admiral Mike Rogers.

OK then. No on Pompeo and yes on McMaster and, after looking into him, Rogers. And certainly no on Elon Musk.

Much like with his first term. Many of the policies and initiatives could have been put forth and accomplished in a low key manner. But Trump likes the attention of the headlines and donations that inflammatory rhetoric brings in. The loud mouth in the office usually accomplishes way less than the folks who just get stuff done. We went from a weekend at Bernies to Archie bunkers place. Ymmv
