So we have someone that has seen how the executive branch civilian work force actually works since Reagan was in office and the efforts to reshape it over the years but folks are not interested in listening to how things really work and would prefer to go with how they think it works.

I'm trying to imagine anyone actually agreeing with your pseudo-logic, subtle-trolling. EVER.

As in like; "Yeah, we really should do things differently to get different results. Therefore, it makes total sense to hand all govt access, and sensitive data - both private and public - and all hiring and firing authority to ....... an unelected, unappointed, unconfirmed white-nationalist lying scumbag.!!!"

As in like ; "Gator football's not looking so good at all. Since we have to do things differently to get different results ...... let's put PeeWee Herman in charge!"

It's laughable. Really, it's the only reason I haven't blocked you is because I like to laugh at this playground logic. And chuckle at your constant non sequitur time waster troll questions.

So question for you: There has long been an argument to reshape how the US military handles its personnel policies. Specifically, up and out needs to be updated to avoid having personnel that have been deemed not promote-able in non-technical fields from hanging around the service for their final 7 to 8 years of service. For example, a infantry major is fired for lack of confidence during his OpsO or XO tour at his or her 12 year mark, which is a career killer. That major can still stay in the service for the next 8 years, be able to hit 20 years, and collect a retirement for the rest of his or her life, that the government is on the hook for, even though the military knows that officer had no future in the service at the 12 year mark. Would officers that have been promoted to LtCol advocating for that policy change be taking glee in other officers losing their jobs/retirements?

if 40 years in the government workforce has taught you the answer is to ignore congress and let the president and his pet billionaire change government however they want… then yeah I agree. Burn it down. I don’t want anymore people like you in there.

And let's just randomly cut last year's recruiting class regardless of how good a player is. That should fix it.

Sounds like the US military needs to change its policies. You should bring in a billionaire with no military experience to start firing people regardless of job performance.

You should also make sure your billionaire publicly outs and humiliates individual people he is firing.

If it’s Gwynn Shotwell doing the looksie I think this is a great idea. If it’s Elon I think not so much.

Thank you for agreeing. This is the overall point that Vax is making. The federal work force does not work the way people think it does by reading about it in the newspaper or watching shows on TV. If you have been in it for a long time, you understand how it actually works, why it works that way, and how it is resistant to changes recommended by outside agencies and groups. Instead of attacking him over it, maybe listen and learn something, even if you disagree with his policy preferences.

Why should we do that when conservatives ROUTINELY ignore those of us who are professionals (inside higher ed for example), and then pretend they know better because they listen to one guy rant on youtube?
Be the change you want to see in the world I guess?

Most of us know people who work in government, one way or another. We all know it is plodding and resistant to change. I could see how that would be frustrating to someone on the inside, but being slow and plodding and resistant to change in government is more a feature than a bug. I don't think people really appreciate how disruptive it would be if the federal workforce starting flipping on its head once every 4 years. In addition to potentially destroying the economy in the greater DC area, it would be destabilizing to the country as a whole.

The federal workforce employed like 2% of working adults in 2024. It's a huge part of how our country works and our economy. That's not something that you want to shred beyond recognition every time we vote for new people to run things. It's like a military vessel getting a new captain - you don't replace the whole crew or rebuild the entire ship just because new officers come on board.

I have my concerns about it but let me ask you this: If Trump were to designate a different private sector business person for every federal agency to act as the Principal to do the review that Musk and his team are doing, would you be more comfortable with that?

I fought off my first bout with boiled peanuts and Busch light. You’ve got to be a gluten to spend your time on this board. Lol. Some of these posters are just all the time angry.
