Conservative former federal judge: Midterms ‘a resounding victory for American democracy’

"For America’s democracy, these midterms were the most important elections in our Nation’s history. And the elections were indisputably a resounding victory for American democracy."

Voters Push Back Against Election Deniers in Key States

"Election conspiracy theorists who echoed the lies of former President Donald Trump lost several key races Tuesday, though some others in Republican-dominated states will now be tasked with running elections.

"While secretary of state races are too close to call in Arizona and Nevada, Republican candidates who openly questioned the validity of the 2020 presidential election lost their bids in Michigan, Minnesota and New Mexico.

"In Pennsylvania, where the governor nominates the secretary of state, gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, defeated Republican Doug Mastriano, who also spread election falsehoods. Mastriano has not yet conceded.

"The outcomes are a massive victory for voting rights advocates, who spent months before the midterms warning that if conspiracy-spreading candidates took office, they could hand-pick winners in future elections. Still, advocates caution, with some results yet to come in key states, election deniers may still try to cause chaos and sow doubt in the voting system."

I think the voters believed Biden's warning that democracy was at stake.
Now let's hope he picks another VP running mate for 2024.

The threat to democracy nonsense spewed over and over again was actually the real ‘Big Lie’.

Yes, There was no ‘red wave’ and the Dems held their own in these mid-terms but please stop acting like democracy was going to end 11/8 if it was the other way around.

When was the last time a President chose a different running mate after a term? There is probably a more contemporary example, but the last one that occurs to me is when Roosevelt dumped overt socialist Henry Wallace for Harry Truman in 1944. To do so today would be an admission of error, which most Presidents would rather die than do.

But it works... The Dems have a good marketing team. If they can roll out a skeleton as president and a James Bond villain as Senator of Pennsylvania and still win, you have to tip your hat to their messaging. It just works.

Or maybe the Republican messaging and positions are just that terrible the last six years?

Scotus gave the Dems an absolute gift by deciding Dobbs this term. And the Republicans ran some ridiculously bad candidates in races that were eminently winnable.

The comments in the OP were by a CONSERVATIVE former federal judge.

Trump was trying to replace honest election officials in swing states (like REPUBLICANS Kemp and Raffensperger in Georgia) with dishonest sycophants, who would falsify vote counts or refuse to certify Dem votes to ensure Trump "wins". Trump strongly opposed both REPUBLICANS Kemp and Raffensperger for re-election because they refused to cave in to his demands that they falsify the 2020 vote counts so he could "win" Georgia.

Thank God enough level-headed patriotic voters saw through this pre-planned coup attempt to defeat most of these Trump bootlickers in the swing states.

    OPEN YOUR EYES!

Ask yourself this . . . Why else would Trump oppose Kemp, the most popular Republican in Georgia? After 2020, Trump knew Kemp would not back is plan to steal the 2024 election.

Yes, the hypocrisy of the right isn't going to work for the majority. The Republicans have done absolutely nothing since Bush Senior was in office. Trump tried but was sabotaged by his own party. They don't deserve to win because they are weak. No one wants to vote for losers.

Which brings me to the Dems. They are pretty awful as well. The fact that they cant seem to win simple majorities with the complete ineptitude on the other side speaks volumes of the lack of talent on that side of the field. Other than Obama, they really have no one of consequence in the party, which keeps Trump or Desantimonuous as a possibility in 24.

You’re probably right, but no president would be as old as Biden should he win a second term, and he must know that Harris is neither popular nor presidential material …. at least not in my opinion.

That statement is an ignorant one. I mean, do you truly believe democracy wasn’t threatened by the election deniers? Were you honestly not alarmed by a president for the first time in our history refusing to acknowledge a defeat - by a 7,000,000 vote margin no less! - and by a significant percentage of Americans, including republicans in Congress, supporting him in that?

I think you’re being dishonest with us, and with yourself.

This has zilch to do with conservative principles. The MAGA folks are swirling around in a mindless cult and being lead by the nose by a narcissist.

He presents well, he seems agile in his responses so as to seem intelligent, he’s not afraid to go on fox.
Doesn’t really have the credentials to run for president though. Should kind of do the cabinet tour, take on a more prominent role in government, or, as transportation secretary, really own this infrastructure / inflation reduction bill to show that he can make the progress on climate change / EV adoption we have all been waiting for. Show EVs in every garage to go with the chicken in every pot. Put 4 level 3 charging stations at every Wawa. Etc. he has the purview to direct hundreds of
Billions of dollars on infrastructure. Own it, run with it, and show it off.

Arizona was literally taking about passing a law where this legislature could override the vote. Mastriano was taking in similar terms, and a number of others were simply willing to not verify elections they thought (with no proof) aren’t “fair”. Several states were trying to send their own electors in 2020, which Trump encouraged It’s an absolute danger to our democracy propagated by the worlds largest crybaby and those that blindly support him no matter how far off the rails he goes. Not sure what else can be done to convince those folks of the danger. Thankfully enough Americans stood up in those two states in particular to stop it for now and send a message.
