A Mike Farrell Sports Columnist Said Gators would be better off if Dan Mullen was still here

I pointed this out in a tread that got moved and people smashed me for it. Mullen went #14, #9, #9 and #12. They said it needed “context”, which is something they do on Fox News or MSNBC to tell you exactly how inflation really is a great thing. The first three letters of the word spell “con” for a reason. Beyond that I understand that Mullen also had incredibly bad coaches that he failed to stand up to coaching his OL and defense, this yielded a series of incredibly bad things for those two groups but to say he just couldn’t or wouldn’t recruit I feel isn’t quite accurate.

You ignore facts you don't like. Tell me how this "#9" signing class on signing day was anywhere close to being #9 in the fall when none of these players made it to campus?

Obviously I've made some real mistakes in my career by actually attempting to stay employed :D (And turning down an entry level HS coaching job because even college asst football coaches didn't make enough money )

    Weird argument

"Napier sucks because he's just as bad as Mullen was at the end, may as well have kept him"

Umm..isn't the goal not to suck?

Napier might end up a flame out, but we know Mullen was already flaming out.

Amazing how the media HATED him when he was at UF with his “pack the swamp” and recruiting season comments and Darth Vader incident, and are now talking about what a great coach he’d be for our program.

Mike Farrell is operating under a completely defunct assumption that it is the coach and school that attracts the player. My premise is that you take Kirby or Saban and plop them at any other institution and give them the same "resources" and they would have accomplished the same results. Its the "resources" that matter, and oh by the way, if the coach is good too that's the gravy.

And they were correct, because those numbers without context are absolutely meaningless. Why would you form a conclusion without actually digging into the details? It's lazy, it's ignorant, and it's just plain foolish. But I guess that doesn't matter when all you care about is pushing your agenda.

Even though it affects the team down the road, how the class pans out is a different argument. Once you secure the commitment of these kids at times they are going to do what they want, regardless. When they are trying to get signed I bet they all say they’ll go to class, show up for practice, play hard and keep their noses clean but some just don’t. Do we also want to subtract kids who have a good season and transfer to our direct rivals? Not only are they no longer with our program but they are working against the future success of our program.

Word salad. He signed guys other programs wouldn't touch. Arjei Henderson had NO shot of signing and every program knew that. He committed without so much as a visit and almost no contact prior. It was the difinition of a ceremonial signing only to bring up the class number. He had transfers and attrition beyond the guys that never set foot on campus. Keep playing dumb.

You compared narratives to media networks and news and then spin your own argument to satisfy your own narrative. Hypocrite

I was okay making a coaching change. But I don't hate Mullen like some do. 3 ny6 games, while winning2 were pretty awesome. And that Peach Bowl game was a ton of fun (I was there). I'm okay seeing what Napier does, but at least with Mullen, we had some pretty good seasons and some nice bowls. Much better than what we have now. Maybe Billy turns it around in year 3.

You need to join a few of the others and get out from behind your keyboard and go to the games. The size, speed and athleticism Napier is bringing in is head and shoulders above Mullen.

Napier could have signed 4 more 3–Stars and got well back into the top ten. Would you rather had him go for the ranking or re-group the NIL funds and go after some more portal players after spring?

I respect that even if I feel a bit different. The success Mullen had was a relief for sure but it also showed he could when whe he tried. We were the upward trending program and Miami and fsu were one foot in the grave. I still feel he assumed the 2020 team would have enough success to get him to the NFL and when it fell apart he gave up. The potshots he takes now don't help his likeability either but again, that's just me.

Mullen wanted out. He must have seen The Producers and realized if he kept his DC and other friends onboard, didn't recruit in football season, eventually he could get out with a huge payday...And that's exactly what happened.

It's crazy someone like him who is supposed to know about football and recruiting doesn't see how our blue chip ratio (last years class) is as high as its been since 2010 class under, and we've signed twice as many consensus 5 star players in this one class as Mullen did his whole time here. Mullens offense aside from the Trask season of 2020 averaged about the same ppg as CBN's, just under 30 points per game. And our defense in CBN's 1st year was shit because of Mullen, our talent level was what it was because of Mullen.

Such a crazy take from a guy who runs football recruiting sites.
