Elko is going back to Aggieland. Texas A&M to hire Mike Elko: Aggies bring back former defensive boss after successful run at Duke, per report
Might be off topic but I’m a big fan of how Oregon went from a joke with Christobal and turned it around pretty quick with Lanning. That team looks like a reflection of their current coach now. They feel like an SEC team.
And, sadly, the Florida job is no longer an upgrade from Oregon. If they want to keep him, we couldn't hire him away.
Which one? Kentucky? Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Missouri, Mississippi, Auburn, Arkansas ?
I actually think the A&M fans may be a little disappointed. Not because Elko isn't a good coach or anything but because he is not a big name yet, and may think if they are gonna spend 70+million just to make the position open and available that they would reel in a big splashy name.
Word on the street is they are pretty happy because he is a known commodity to them. He was their DC when they had some of the best defenses they have ever had. If they couldn't get the likes of Sweeney then Elko is a nice get and he won't cost a fortune.
Yeah just saying so far that looks like a success story of getting rid of trash and getting the right guy. Still too early to tell tho but looks good as of now.
I kinda like the guy, but its justbon potential because Looking at his HC resume a little closer I'm actually surprised. They must have the belief that he is the one because he is 16-9 in 2 seasons at Duke in the ACC has only beaten 1 ranked team and lost to all the others he's played. And lost 5 of the last 8 games of this season. Again not all saying he's not good, just saying you don't often see big time hires, hires that will amount to more than a 100 million dollars when said and done coming off of a season like that. Good for him.
